We filed our form 28 with NYS on Monday to request the "recognition of a foreign decree" which will create a NY adoption decree, name change, and cert of birth data. They said if we wanted they'd just mail us all the completed papers or we could ask to have a 15 min meeting with a judge in court for pics and all that. Tuesday they called to say we were on the schedule for this Friday already! 4 days! Yay!

So....ideas for making it special? I plan to have everyone dress up nicely and get a photo with the judge. It's a Friday in Lent so we are limited in terms of celebratory meals. We have family in town for his baptism (which is the next day) so they will come with us along with some family who live around here.

If you've done the re-adoption, did you have any special rituals, keepsakes, or ideas for the day? I don't want to make it some big all-day hoopla since we have that the next day with the baptism, but I don't want it to be a 15 minute thing and then everyone go back to work/home either.

Congrats you guys. Brian's Irish adoption was last Tuesday. We had family with us in court, then lunch and then everyone went home and we sat and watched Pinocchio. at home quietly but it was a really really good day with lots of good feelings. I hope you enjoy yours. Its such a milestone, isn't it. HUGS Bernie

Not in NY, but also had the 15 minute court thing. We then went out for dinner at our favorite family resturant and hung out with my parents. Nothing too fancy and nothing too stressful- just a day for momma to treasure.

After DD's we went to dinner and had a little cake made with her "new" name on it.
DS's is week after next and we will do the cake thing again, but I think I'll have the meal or heavy appetizers at home instead of a restaurant.
I should add that our court makes the hearing really nice. They usually do a hearing with 4 or 5 families at a time and its nice to share in the other families' joy as well. We were the 4th of 5 families at DD's and I think I got misty eyed each time.

Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!
We went to the court house for re-adoption and had our picture taken with the judge. It happened to be a very nice warm Sunny day out and the vendors were all over. So we just had lunch there and made a picnic out of it. And then wondered around the court yard. unfortunately I had to get back to work but it was a very peaceful 2 hrs. Again Congrats on this spacial day.
