OT- 17 kids and Counting Episode

Did anyone watch the episodes of The Duggars visiting El Salvador? It is very moving and reminds me so much of the poverty going on in Guatemala. The Duggars also visited an orphanage and that footage is heartbreaking. They said it takes 6yrs. to complete an adoption. Very moving episodes and one we all can related to after seeing the poverty in Guatemala.

I love watching the Duggars. I haven't seen this episode yet. I will have to watch for it to run again and be sure to see it.

I missed the first half of the show but so glad they did this. So sad to see children waiting so long to be adopted.

The airing of this epsiode shows the reality of extreme poverty and unclean drinking water. I hope that will result more aid to the people living there.

I have to watch it when it airs again.

It was 2 episodes of their trip to El Salvador. They did mention the adoption process, the heartbreak of children that end up living in an orphanage until they are too old to live there, and talked alot about the poverty. It was 2 great episodes and maybe will boost adoptions in Latin America. The saddest part for me was when they spoke to a 14yr. old girl who said she wished she could go back with Duggars (she knows her chance of being adopted is slim to none). Tear jerker episodes, and reminded me so much of had bad it is in Guatemala. It showed how bad some people really have it and how thankful we should be for what we have.

That just breaks my heart. It's so sad to know that children that are 7, 8, 9 years old are too old to be desirable and that 14 is almost past the point of being legally allowable to be adopted. I needed my mom and dad waaaayyy past that point...in fact I still do. We all just need a family to call our own. Makes me want to cry to think about it. I'll be sure to watch...hopefully I can watch it alone, so I don't cry in front of the kids...not that there's anything wrong with that..I just spend my time answering questions about why I'm crying rather than watching the show!!

I watched the first episode and plan to watch the second via dvr tonight. I found the first one to be very moving and thought provoking. My eyes were filled with tears for much of it and my heart actually hurt.

Seeing that sort of poverty is something that I just can't wrap my brain around. I am a Christian and I believe that God has a plan for each of us but when I was watching that episode, I found myself wondering and questioning what the plan there could possibly be.

I do thank God that there are people working to help those in El Salvador and in other places around the world. My hubby and I talked a lot after it about how we could do more to help and it's something that we are praying about and working on.

It is on the TLC channel. It says online that the episodes will air tonight on TLC at 12 and 12:30am. So, if you have TIVO or a DVR you could tape it if you are in bed by then.

It was very moving, especially the 14 yr old girl. I wonder what will happen to her when she is of age - not sure if it's 16 or 18 there. Will she just be sent out to fend for herself? I keep thinking of her.

I watched it twice - at 9 and then when it aired again at midnight. It really makes you look around and think of all that we have living here in the US.

By the way, the link to the group that organized the mission trip was on the Duggar's website. Actually, I think I saw it on their son Josh's website.

Here it is:

They also have photos of their visit on the website.

Not to stir the pot, but I thought the Duggars didn't believe in adoption.

I haven't heard that. I actually read an article where Michelle said it was something they had been praying about and considering.

what i have read is that they are "followers" for lack of a better word of a man who is really anti adoption because he believes that children inherit the sins of their parents....and so by adopting a child you bring trouble into your home. but i have yet to see in writing anywhere that they themselves do not believe in adoption. but it is interesting, and either way kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Nice to know the followers of that religion are sinless... and therefore don't pass it on to their children.
PUH-LEEEZE.

I'd also like to see them get approved to adopt. I don't think it'd happen
