We just submitted our dossier for the Colombia program. Now we settle in for the 3 year wait. Good luck in your decisions!

We have not adopted internationally, but I can tell you when we started the domestic program, my CW highly recommended we reconsider and adopt from Ethiopia. We are glad we didnt or we wouldnt have gotten matched with our 2 girls, but I would consider it in the future.

We went to Vietnam the second time around. It was a much smoother process than Guatemala. Unfortunately it is closed now too with no real good signs of reopening either. There's so much need in both countries...it's really sad.

My agency sent us an email that they are processing Mexico now. Here are the pertinent details. If you want the name of the agency PM me!!!
After referral, child home in approx 4 months
Approx cost 19-20K (w/out travel)
2 trips (one 7-10 days, and one about 2 weeks)
They tell me they have referrals now

We are going back and forth as to what we will do, but will be happy to share with anyone interested.

We went to Vietnam for our 2nd adoption and brought DS home Nov. 2008, it was a very smooth process and had a wonderful experience. If God calls us to adopt a 3rd time most likely we will adopt from Ethiopia!

We are waiting on our 171H and will then be submitting our dossier for an adoption from Ethiopia.

We had also considered Bulgaria, but we wanted to maintain birth order and it would have been difficult to accomplish.

My agency stated that they are processing Mexico adoptions also. We have begun throwing that around. The children are ages 5-14 and require two trips. I really want to adopt from Guatemala again, I just can't give up on that yet.

We are adopting from Nepal. I have been reading a lot about the country and culture and I've got to say that I am really excited. Our Dossier gets submitted Jan 2010 as Nepal only takes 10 applications per agency. They just reopened adoptions January of this year so I'm sure changes in protocol will be made along the journey.

I know it's not another country, but I can't say enough great things about looking into domestic adoption. It's how we adopted our Guatemalan-American cutie. (Of course, he's the only child of Guatemalan descent that they have placed, but a lot of agencies are placing Latino babies domestically.)

Like Shannavi, we started the process for Nepal, but because of restrictions on the number of dossiers that can be submitted each year, we won't be able to submit ours until 2010. We have considered other countries, but because of age (mid-40s), we limited on the programs we qualify for. Ethiopia is another program we've explored. As well as China's special needs program. In the meantime, we started the process to foster-adopt through a private agency that is licenced to place children in our state. We're hoping to be placed with a child or sibling group of 2 under the age of 3. When we had our interview with our agency's placement coodinator and told we were open to gender, race, and special needs, I thought she was going to start doing cartwheels around her office. We're hoping to licenced soon. So we'll see what happens.

Best wishes in your next journey!

We're adopting a baby girl from Taiwan. The process has been long. Hope to travel to Taiwan after the court process which can take 3-8 months.
