OT: Book suggestions

I am looking for a good book. I hate to be without one!
Here is the list of what I have read lately.
I will only list the good ones!

The Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes
Wrapped in Rain
When Crickets Cry
Grace

I also read The Hour I First Believed.
It is a good book but just didn't care for the language
at times.

I got a Kindle for Christmas and have been putting it to good use. Oh how I love my Kindle.

So has anyone got any good book suggestions?

I loved "The Other Bolelyn Girl" by Philippa Gregory. I could not put it down. The movie is no good, though.

I've been on a memoir kick and just read:

A Long Way Gone memoirs of a boy soldier by Ishmael Beah about his experience as a child soldier in Sierra Leone

Look Me in the Eye by John Elder a memoir about growing up with Aspergers

There are no Shortcuts by Rafe Esquith About his experiences teaching inner city kids in LA. He won teacher of the year in 1992

I hate to admit this but I also just read the Stephanie Meyers Twilight series for young adults. My 14 yr old sister begged me to try the first one Twilight (she thought it would be way cool to be able to discuss a book with me) so I read it and I was hooked...I read them all in 2 weeks. I am not a Sci Fi or vampire lover so it really took me by surprise.

Tina, wasn't that just a page turner...I couldn't put it down.

Sarah, yup, must confess. Was just on vacation and read Twilight....now I can't wait to read the rest!

I have been into mysteries lately and my favorite "new" writers are Tana French, Denise Mina and Charles Finch. I just finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo....weird but great (Swedish writer...just translated into English!).

The Shadow of the Wind. It was one of the few books in our book club that everyone loved. I have loaned it to several people and they have loved it.

If you like mysteries, Mary Higgins Clark is a pretty good author, and she doesn't use profanity in her books.
I also really enjoyed the books in the Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson.

Our bookclub just finished Daugters of Fortune.
Good read, bit slow in the middle.
It is about 1820 Chili and the California Gold rush.

I love Jane Green, Meave Binchy both have new books out.
If you like English Mysteries. PD James just finished her last book.
Joanna Trollope is another of my favorite writers.
I also realize I prefer the British/Irish autors over the American or Dutch.

I just read "Very Valentine" by Adriana Trigiani, a fun novel about an italian american family. I really like her writing and her character development. I was sorry when it ended, always a good sign (but it's the first of a trilogy so I just have to be patient, I guess!)

Three Cups of Tea...an amazing true story about a man who started out as a mountain climber and ended up building schools and changing lives for the children and people of Pakistan.

I also loved the Jan Karon Mitford Series and the Jennifer Chiaverini Elm Creek Quilts Series.

Cool

I am another Twilight lover, can't believe how hooked I got and typically I hate vampires! I was sharing them with my 13 year old step-daughter, she got a big kick out out of that!!!

My favorite book of all time is Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye. Its not of new book, of course, but it is incredible. Its one of those books you crawl inside of and don't come up for air.

I am about 100 pages into True Colors (Kristin Hannah) and so far it is good. But since I am not finished with it, I can't say for sure!!!

Since you read Wrapped in Rain and When Crickets Cry, did you read Charles Martin's first book, The Dead Don't Dance? It's his best, IMHO. I heard it's being made into a Hallmark movie, sigh, I love Hallmark movies.

Speaking of Hallmark movies, have you read any Luanne Rice books? At least two have been made into Hallmark movies - she's one of those authors that make you laugh out loud one minute and cry the next.

The Notebook is an amazing book jam-packed with emotion.

If you like action, without sex and violence, the Left Behind series is a great read.

I'd second avoel's suggestion of the Mitford Series by Jan Karon - definitely near the top of my all-time-favorites list.

If you like thought-provoking-ethical-dillemma novels, you'll love Jodi Picoult's Change of Heart.

Happy reading!
