Need help with G-884

Our Daughter was adopted from Ethiopia and came home on the IR-4 so there was a lot of paperwork to do before I could file the G-884. Well, I finally got everything filled out and submitted and it's been over a month. I sent it to our USCIS office because they are the last to act on this case when they issued the COC a year ago (but DD has been in the US 3 years). So yesterday I get all my papers back with a letter saying they need me to file the "G-639" to get these records!! But on the G-639 forum it says not to file it if you want your originals back (use the G-884). What?!? I am so confused!!

Anyone else dealt with this?? Is it because I should have just sent the G-884 to the National Records Center? If I send this to the NRC do you think I need to do this G-639 with it? I'm so confused. USCIS drives me nuts!

What you need to do is email the Buffalo USCIS office at Child-Citizenship-Act@dhs.gov with your child's A# and ask them which office you should file the G884 with. I would also tell them what happened with the local office. The guy that runs the Buffalo office, Don, is fabulous and had pretty much taken over the G884 processing and is SO helpful.

The local offices are notorious for not having a clue about the G884 and sending out letters like that. Don should be able to get things straightened out for you.

Thanks. I'm giving this a try.
