On the topic of breast cancer, has anyone ever had a "suspicious area" found?

I recently had a mammogram with a "suspicious area". I had an ultrasound today and apparently they are going to call me tomorrow and let me know what the next step is (if any). The u/s tech definitely found the area of concern b/c she was talking to her boss who was on the computer next to her "supervising" her doing it. I heard her say - "blah blah u/s talk, yes that's it right there, blah blah u/s talk". I then asked "WHAT THE ^%$^% IS IT??" And they said, oh the radiologist is the only one who can read it. So I'm a little wigged out.

Has anyone been through this with a "it was nothing" ending? I'm freaking. Thanks.

Yep, I've had that happen twice to me. The first time, I just called back in for a repeat mammogram and ultrasound. The second time, I had to undergo a stereotaxic biopsy. Both times turned out to be false alarms. Try not to worry too much. (I know, easier said than done.)

P.S. I know how frustrating it is when you overhear the technicians and get told you have to wait for the radiologist's report. I hate when that happens...

I have some calcuim deposits that show up on mammograms and while I have never had a tech comment (they really should NOT be commenting) they do look suspicious on the film and always get a second look but are not a concern in and of themselves. (I just have to have them monitored.)

Try not to freak out! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Every year. It's never yet turned out to be anything of significance.

Back in September I had a mammogram, an ultrasound & a biopsy. The doctor said it was a galactocele (not sure if the spelling is correct). Anyway, I just had a follow-up ultrasound, and there was no change in it, so everything seems to be okay. It's just something I'll need to keep an eye on. I hope everything turns out okay for you. I know I was definitely nervous about mine.

Yep, I had false alarm too....

after mammogram, ultrasound and MRI (you can ask if this is an option before doing any biopsy -- for me, it was)

Did lots of reading up after that.....learned there are many, many false positives after mammograms. That's why mammograms not recommended for some women.

Me too.. Last July I had an mammogram and they found a spot. I went back for another mammogram at our local hospital but they couldn't get a clear picture so sent me to the radiology department at the larger hospital in another town. They did an ultrasound and everything was fine. I just went back in January for my 6 month recheck and no changes were found.

I know it is a scary thing. Praying for good news for you! Renee

Was this your first mamogram? If so, it's really no uncommon as they have no baseline for you. I get called back every time because of something suspicious. Thank Gd it's been nothing every time.

Steph, I just went through this myself. Had my first mamogram they found a "suspicious area" so I had a sonogram. The sonogram was not enough then I had to have a "breast roll" lol, yeah that's what they called it... It was just a more detailed mamogram, that was still not good enough, then they had a specific area sonogram... In the meantime I was thinking OMG, what if??? Well, two months after my first mamogram I was given a clean bill of health! I just have "Dense" Spelling??? breasts.. So, don't worry too much I'm sure it'll be just fine!!!

I had this happen a couple days before this last Christmas. Spent the scariest 3 hours in the hospital while they did more and more mammograms. In the end they turned out to be cysts that I had drained.
I am sorry you need to go through this!

Kristin

I will join the chorus - I had a breast MRI in October because of some "asymmetrical dense spots" on my mamogram (they did not think a sonogram would have been clear enough to resolve the doubt), and received a clean bill of health within a half an hour of the MRI. It was dense but normal breast tissue that was not noticed on my baseline 5 years ago (different lab - the one from 5 years ago had closed). Sending my thoughts and prayers to you.
