Hair Help

My son's hair is very straight. Every since he has come home his hair has matted in the back of his head, I thought this was possibly due to baby hair. We trimmed it and I thought growing it out would stop this but it hasn't seemed to help. Has anyone got a solution for this? I'm thinking maybe cut it in layers short? Just afraid if it gets shorter it will really stand on end.

Thoughts??

Have you tried some of the leave-on spray detangler/conditioner? I got some from Johnson & Johnson for my daughter's hair that is all frizzed up and tangled in the morning. It works great!!

Yes, I have tried the tangle spray and the shampoo for tangles. Nothing has seemed to work. The matting comes out, but is right back again within a few minutes.

Jorge has a dry wire-y section in the back of his hair, too. Most of his hair is shiny and healthy looking (when it's not full of food) and that area looks dry, crispy, and generally fried.

Since he puts so much food in his hair we can't skip hair washing too often. We do it about 3x a week. I use some pomade I stole out of my husband's cabinet. It's an Axe product so he smells like a teenager. After I wash his hair and towel it dry a bit, I rub a little in that area and it seems to settle it down a little and keeps it a little softer and shinier. It looks more like the rest of his head.

DH slathered J's whole dry head in it once. That was one sticky mess!!

my daughter's hair is like that. It's helped that she only gets her hair washed 2x per week and we use kids conditioner. We put in the conditioner, bathe her body and let her play a bit, then rinse. It still gets a little bird nesty on occasion but it's helped alot.

My sons hair is the same way.
I just wet his hair in the morning and brush it alot.
There are alot of kids that come in the salon with hair like that, and as they get older it goes away. I just think kids hair is fine and silky so it is easily matted.

This describes it perfectly. I will try the hair product and see if it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions!

My son's was like that when he was a baby. Once he got a little older, it got more course. We now keep it really short and layered because it sticks straight out and up. He looks like a little rock star when I add gel to spike it. I also used to use a little of my conditioner when he was a baby, but it didn't do much for the matting.

Our five year old daughter has the same problem. I use a little bit of my heavy duty conditioner in her hair just in the back where I can rinse it down her back not in her eyes. I also have found it really helps to get her hair completely dry (good luck with that!) before she goes to bed.

My sister's mother in law is a hair dresser and she said that the older ladies that still have their hair done once a week usually sleep on a real silky pillow case to keep their hair in place. I wondered about such a thing for a child? However, as I check on our daughter during the night she rarely is in the same place twice!!

Our older daughter has the most beautiful hair I have ever seen so I am holding out hope that the little one's will settle down as she gets older.

The wild hair fits her personality! Renee
