OT: Good towns to live in in NC

I'm looking to relocate to NC in about 2 years. Can anyone offer good towns in NC to raise a family? I'm also a teacher and looking for school districts to work in as well. If I had my choice, I'd like to stay away from extremely mountainous areas. I don't know much about NC but I have a cousin who lives in Matthews and absolutely LOVES it.

Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Check out Wilmington NC

I lived in Wilmington before relocating to Florida and loved it. I've been gone for 8 years now so not sure what has changed about the area. If you like the "feel" of where you are now you'll probably like the coastal feel of Wilmington.

I left NC last year after living there for almost 25 years. I loved the weather, small city convenience etc.

However, the school system was a disaster for one of my sons. He received no services, other than SLT twice a week and there answer was to retain him in K and "see if it got better". Here in NY, he has spent the last 1.5yrs in a 12.1.1 class and receives Speech, OT and Counseling support. Getting out of the NC schools was a lifesaver for him....not to mention that I am GLAD to have him someplace where they do not feel the need to call regularly complaining about his behaviors..and he does not wind up sitting at a table by himself apart from the rest of the class.

Look hard at the school that you will be zoned into before making any committments to buy or rent a house!

My sister lives in Chapel Hill, and my parents in Fearrington (they used to be in Chapel Hill also), both are very nice communities. My niece is in kindergarden, and is already reading and writing.

We have friends that live in the Wilmington area. They LOVE it!! She moved there 15 years ago and has only great things to say about it there.
We have gone to visit several times and i will say it is such a nice area and so close to the beach.

We live just a little south of Raleigh and we love it! Our area is a bit rural, but is growing. While enjoying relatively peaceful country atmosphere, we are only 15 minutes to Wal-Mart, several grocery stores, fast food, restaraunts, etc, and only 25-30 minutes from busier places like Cary or downtown Raleigh.

Weather is great! A couple hours to the coast and a couple hours to the mountains! Come and visit some time!
