Genius idea? How would I do it?

I read to the boys A LOT. But also play audiobooks when they go to bed...which aren't cheap.

I had a genius (?) idea - why don't I tape myself reading their favorite books to them??

Then they can have their Mommy reading to them even after I am done reading to them!

How would I do it? Tape myself on a recorder and then transfer to a CD?

I think there's some program that you can use to burn your own voice onto a CD--not sure how. You may have to record it on the computer first, then transfer to CD. Cool idea!

Absolutely Genius Julie!!! That's what I did when Elaina was still in Guatemala. I tape recorded myself on a student size recorder and sent the books and tape recorder to her FM. (Actually you and Tony delivered them for me) I still have a tape recorder on my HUGE 80's stereo and Elaina listens to books on tape and the radio in her room has a tape player and a cd player so she can read her books by herself. Being a pre-school teacher I have tons of books on tape if you want to borrow them-but it won't be your voice and also you can order books on cd through scholastic.com

Talk to you later, Judi

Do you have a digital voice recorder (or access to one)? You can use this, transfer the file to a computer, then burn a CD.

You can use an ipod. You just need a recording attachment (which you buy separately). Some thing--just record; transfer to computer; then burn on a CD.

There are ways to record directly on a computer--if you have a newer computer, this should be fairly straight forward. You can get a small microphone to hook into your computer that you can speak into. Then you would burn the file on a CD.

An "old-fashioned" tape recorder / tape player might be the easiest if you aren't sure about any of the above.

I actually have 3 Ipods, but my last one is a Nano. So I just buy the recording attachment, download and burn onto a CD?

Easy peasy!!

Thanks!!

We do this too. There's a free audio download on the net called Audacity. It allows you to edit (when you mess up) and boost sound quality. You can then just save to a CD. All you need is an internal or external microphone on your computer (most laptops have internal mics).

Good idea, but don't forget your local library. Most would have plenty of audio books too.
