What Do Your 2 and 3 Year Olds Eat?

Hello everyone,

My daughter will be 3 in March. Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the day care / school she attends part time offers quite a few carbs at lunch time. Maybe it just seems that way because I tend to not have too many carbs at meals. So I'm curious to see what other children that age are eating for lunch and/or dinner.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Janel

B. Carrots, sweet potato fries, peas

C. Some mix of Craisins, raisins, roasted edamame, cheerios, fruity cheerios, pretzels, peanuts, and sunflower seeds

D. Cubed cheese, a dish of yogurt, applesauce

E. Milk, watered down OJ, or water

EVERYTHING...I'm not kidding. My girls are awesome eaters!! Their favorite food is sausage. However, they really don't turn their noses at anything.
The only thing my 3 year old won't eat is....marshmellows???? I'm not sure why, but she tried them once with her hot chocolate(her fav) and hasn't touched them again.

Whatever we eat. By the time she was a year old (3 1/2 now) I started just chopping up whatever I had cooked. That plan has worked really well for us and has made it easier to eat elsewhere without the "I don't eat that" routine.

Madeline eats e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g! There are very few things in this world that she will turn away.

Malea's favorites are chicken, fruits ,veggies, oatmeal and cereal in general, grilled cheese, rice, pickles, spaghetti and meatballs and ham. Ohhh she loves french fries too.
She is overall actually quite a healthy eater but doesn't each much and is a little peanut.

Loves raisins, goldfish and popcorn for snacks.

We also try to pick foods from all the food groups for her and try to keep it to as much "real food" as possible.

Ya basically whatever we eat. We try to keep a balance of carbs, protein, dairy, and fruits/veggies. So she eats pretty much the same as us.

DD doesn't eat that great at school...but eats part of it usually. Yesterday they had pasta, salad and fruit. My 2.5 year old is not into salad....

She loves CHEESE... all kinds... so I can usually throw some meat and cheese in a tortilla and she'll have that. She eats a least one banana a day and other fruits.

She is not that into veggies although we are working on it - she does drink vegetable juice.

Every day we do a variety of fruits and vegetables (normally at least 3 of each, including both fresh and cooked), milk at each meal, and the rest is largely starch. Whole grain sandwiches (cheese, pbj, or egg), soups, pasta dishes, rice dishes, and sometimes potato. We don't have meat every day but we have a bit of chicken a couple times a week. My kids eat whatever I eat (and vice versa) at all meals. They are good eaters and only have a few specific things they really don't like.

Elaina is a great eater. Her favorite veggies are asparagus and brussel sprouts. She loves lamb chops, chicken, fish and pork. She loves apples, bananas, pineapple. She just tried blueberries tonight. She thought they were grapes (another fav) but I told her no it was a blueberry-she took a bite and said I don't like the skin and then tried to eat the inside and she spit it out. Oh well-She will try just about anything.

Liana is also a pretty good eater. She LOVES black beans. She enjoys barley and brown rice, and eats more pasta than she should... but she loves it. She also loves eggs and clear soups and I can toss tofu into just about anything. FRUITS disappear. Her favorites are bananas and blueberries and strawberries, but honestly she has not met a fruit she doesn't like, and she eats such huge quantities that I am always running out. Veggies are another story. She'll eat some broccoli, and asparagus, and maybe some squash. Her daycare provider insists that she eats salads at daycare, but I can't get her to eat any at home.

For snacks, when we are not eating fruit, any kind of cheese. She loves cheese and crackers. And peanut butter. She also really likes those cereal bars with either fruit of yoghurt. I've tried to not introduce her to much in terms of junk food, but we eat popcorn together when we watch a movie, and sometimes I let her eat a little chocolate. And once every week or two we get a pizza delivered and she eats two pieces in a sitting.

Yeah, our babysitter is darn near perfect, but her food choices make me wince sometimes.

At home, Owen, who is 27mo, eats:
nugget chickens (what he calls them)---good ones, w/organic chicken and nothing else added besides some water and salt)
whole grain mac and cheese
whole wheat noodles/spaghetti
baby greens (he loves them! weird)
broccoli, steamed
lots of fruit
chicken, turkey
low-sugar granola bars
pretzels sometimes

A short list of dislikes;
eggs, beets, chop meat

Angelena is a VERY picky eater... I think if I would let her she would be a Vegetarian... And when she does eat, she nibbles... Example... Last nights dinner:

Pork Chops, Corn, Green Beans, Apple Sause, and Mash Potatoes...

Angelo ate EVERYTHING... Even a corner off a piece of bread with Apple Sauce on it...

Angelena at: All the corn, a few Green Beans, a couple of bites of Apple sauce... and ALL HER LETTUCE...She said she was full... About 5 minutes later, I asked her if she wanted some chicken... And she ate a few bite of the pork chop... I already had it cut up on her plate, so she was clueless...

Sometimes it is a fighting battle to get her to eat... SHE IS A GREAT MORNING EATER... SHE WILL GET MOST OF HER PROT IN THE MORNING...

Daycare is great - there is a senior daycare next door so they cook the same meals for all. Broccoli and carrots are is his fav veggies and he gets both at home and daycare. Yogurt, any kind of fruit, avacado, salad, falafel pockets, we will sometimes share a chicken, rice and beans with hot sauce burrito. Cheese, eggs, toast, blueberry pancakes (which he helps make!). It's just the two of us so no restaurant but we pretty much eat the same thing. He also likes Thai and Indian food (mostly vegan)so I'm pretty lucky. He's not into too many sweet things though he does like his mini blueberry muffins as a treat.
