Does your toddler take dance class?

I'm looking to put Malea in dance class in the fall. I really don't know what are good prices etc..
the one we are looking at is $288 for the year. 1/2 hour class each week. It's s studio and they teach all ages. This class is for 2 1/2 to 4 year olds.
Does this sound like a reasonable price?

DD takes a 45 min/wk class that is ballet and tap. The children are 3 to 5 years old, but most of the children in her class are young 4 year olds.
Her class works out to be $342/yr.
Make sure you ask about recital costs. Participation at DD's studio is optional but encouraged. I just paid $75 for her costume
She takes a tumbling class there as well and I think I will not have her participate in recital for that class. Not only do I not want to pay for another costume to be worn once for 10 minutes, but they put her classes on 2 different nights of the recital. I think she is a bit young to have 2 dress rehearsals and 2 performances in one week. That would be four late nights.

Owen doesn't need dance class. He does the twist, marches, pumps his arms, lifts those feet. He's amazing! Hee hee!

We just got home from DD's dance class. She is 3.5 and is in a class that does a little tap, ballet and tumbling. They also do an art project at the end of the class.
The class is an hour and 1/2 long, runs from Sept to the end of May and is 38.00 a month. That makes it 456.00 dollars total. The ages range from 3.5 to 5.5, but most of the other kids in her class are around 4.
As the children get older( 5.5 and up) they then start to participate in a dance show......luckily, we still have a bit of time to go before we are ready for that. For now she just enjoys listening to the music, playing with her "girl friends", and wearing her tutu.
To answer your actual question...yes, that sounds like a pretty good price for that class.

Olivia is almost 3.5. Looks like my class is a lot more expensive but choices are very limited in my area so this was it. I pay $56/month, plus recital costumes (2 of them). It's a combo class of tap, jazz, and tumbling. It runs for 90 min once a week. I know that sounds long but they only do each style for 30 min and she loves it. She attends where I used to go over 30 years ago and it's one of the leading arts centers in south Florida (not that that matters to me but it explains the cost). I figured, as long as she likes it I'll keep her in it. She seems to enjoy it for now. I'd like her to stay through the spring because I already paid for the recital costumes but if she has a change of heart I'll let her move on to another activity. It's so cute to watch her dance and she comes home and tries to do all the moves. Good luck!

DD did take Ballet and it was $45/mo w/ additional expenses like others posted. I would HIGHLY recommend going and watching a class if possible by yourself or w/ Malea.

The studio we used wouldn't allow parents to observe. I could "hear" what was going on but not see. Overall I think it was a good studio but DD has an "issue" with being told she "can't" go potty if she ask. They told her "no" 2 weeks straight and made her wait until the end of class. She didn't want to return.

She has other activities and the ballet was only offered @ 1PM on Wed which was very difficult time frame for me logistically. So I allowed her to "quit."

Very good point... thanks for the suggestion. I will see if I can sit in on a class. I also would like it to be a class where i can sit in.

We pay $30 a month for 50 minutes a week. My oldest loves it! My little in is not interested.

They both want to take gymnastics (we've done it before) so I might get them started in that again. That cost $30 a month for 30 minutes a week.

My girls cost $50 each for one 45 minute session a week per month. Their costumes were $75 each and then we have to sell recital ads as well as pay a recital fee!! It's going to be over $300 for their first recital!!!! They love it though so I'm willing to pay!

Thanks for everyone's input.
I'm hoping she likes it. I used to love taking dance class when I was young.

My DD is 3.5 and loves it (it's over an hour and I can run out shopping while she is there, so mama loves it too). They do a combo of dance/art projects. It's a bit expensive (I think like a little over 500 for the year, plus costumes, etc.). We also can't observe except on special days (which I get...DD would never do anything if I were there watching). Hope your DD likes it!!

I'm taking M in a few minutes to see if she likes it. It's $50/mo. She should technically be going into a 2-3.5yo class but I don't think she'll behave, so we're doing a tot & parent class.

We pay 52.00 a month for 90 minutes once a week. The class is a combo of tap, ballet and tumble. Castle loves it and there are flatscreen tv's in the waiting area for each studio, our center has 9 different studios in it, so the parents can watch. Once a month the parents are ask to come into the class and watch a short dance the kids have learned. We start in Aug and run through May with a recital. There are also recital cost and two costumes, we don't do a dance for tumble. Our recital and costume fees are paid in installments and through a fund raiser we can do around Christmas to recieve a % of what we sell towards our fees. Our cost is a little higher but the studio is one of the best rated in the area.

My daughter's school ran a special this year for first time dancers they are chargin $25 per month from Sept - June. Her class is an hour long and is 1/2 tap and 1/2 ballet. They do have a recital at in June in which she will need 2 costumes at $50 each and this had to be prepaid in Dec. I do get to sit and watch the class.
