OT - Online schools

I've looked into UOP, but their prices are REALLY high. Can anyone recommend and online university that they have used/currently using?

A plug for UOP

They may be expensive but the quality education is excellent! You might also look at your local community college - many have online programs. I will tell you they will not be as sophisticated as the UOP program - UOP has been doing it a long time and have really figured it out!

Most online colleges are going to be significantly higher than attending a campus based traditional college. I have found the rates to vary between $300 and $400 per credit and typically with online classes, it is three credits per class. I pay roughly around $1000 per class for the accelerated classes. It was also around the same thing when I went to the campus based accelerated classes. The cheapest you will find is attending a community college, but as a working adult and soon to be parent, the traditional campus based college doesn't work for me.

I attended a large Texas Public University, about (75%) online and some courses. I'm working on a Dual Masters program right now and it is 49% online and 51% classroom... ALOT of state universities now offer distance learning, many programs 100%. Check your large state universities first (most have Bachelor's, Masters and Doctorates) - this way you can pay in state tuition - a fraction of the price of Phoenix. However, note that you will pay a distance learning fee, which can range from $100.00 up to $600.00 per class.

Plus the larger University programs typically don't print "online" on transcripts or degrees - some employers still do not value online education as much as they should!

I know personally that I've worked much harder in online courses than in person ones!!

I'm not sure if UoP classes always transfer. It's been a few years since I researched on-line colleges, but the decision I made for my Masters (before I put it on hold) was the University of Maryland on-line.

I agree that some employers will not even accept a degree from Phoenix. You really need to research that before you sign up. My husband works for a really large company who typically pays for anyone who chooses to go back to school for a master's degree, but they will not pay for the U of Phoenix, because the feeling at this company is that it is simply a place to 'buy a diploma'.

I agree with everyone else...start at your local University. Even though 'on-line' classes typically cost a little more than regular classes, there are a LOT of them available and you may be able to get a chunk of your degree done that way.

Good Luck!!

I would recommend that if you're looking for a degree program, look for a brick and mortar school that has a distance learning program. For example, I did the Masters of Training and Development program at NC State and all classes were on-line, never had to go to the campus. The on-line classes are also cheaper. The reason I recommend this route is that on-line schools like UoP have very tenuous accrediation. Five online schools have lost and then regained their accrediation twice in the last 3 years. This is not good when you start to go looking for a job. Employers do look at the general repuation of schools and if your degree is accredited.

If you're just doing an online class for fun or just doing one class, Strayer tends to be on the lower end of the price scale.

OT- Online Schools

I have a masters degree from Universtiy of Phoenix and I currently am an Online Instructor for Ashford University. I teach Organizational Management but I know they have several other programs available.

Good luck on your search!

On-line classes from a regular University aren't always cheaper. I have 3 kids in 3 different colleges and we always have to pay an 'upcharge' if they take an on-line class. We pay the normal tuition rate and then usually something like $250-$275 more if the class is on-line.

Have you looked into Columbia College of Missouri. They have several on-line BA or BS programs and a Masters program through Webster University. They are still expensive but cheaper than UoP. Plus if you live in Missouri or near a Military Base they have more programs available at satellite campuses with night classes etc. I looked into UoP but felt like they just wanted my money, I didn't feel that way with Columbia.
Good Luck!
