Unhappy 3 Year checkup and 1st Dentist-EEK!!!

Well Miss Elaina has had a rough couple of days. Monday we went for her 3 year checkup and lets just say it did not go very well. On the bright side she has grown 4 inches and gained 6 pounds in the last year. The docotr was very happy. She is at 55% for weight and 80% for height. Then I had to get her flu shot but because she is three they gave her the nasal mist. Yeah-no shot!!

Then today we went to her first Dentist. We talked and talked about both visits but she just screamed and cried through both visits. The dentist is a family friend but I thought he could have been a little more senstitve. I might try a pediatric dentist next time.

Is this normal for this age??? Later today we have to go to see her Physical Therapist to get her re-measured for her Lymphodema garments. Hopefully this trip will be tear free. Wish me luck.

We have always gone to a pediatric dentist. DS#1 and #2 both have always done great. Even with DS#2 getting two crowns. DD screamed for the first several visits. Finally, at her last six month checkup at age 4.5 she did great.

Give it some time. This too shall pass! (Though trying a pediatric dentist I think would be well worthwhile.)

Good luck!

Judi,
So glad that Elaina is growing!!

As far as dentists...my friend is a dentist and she recommends Jenkins and LeBlanc...they are pediatric dentists...they have an office in Western Shawnee and are wonderful! My niece takes her girls to them. We go to my friend and she is wonderful, too. She is in KC, KS in turner if you want her name, too!

Let me know.

We go to a Ped dentist. We started Malea going when she was 1 and took her again when she turned two. The place we take Malea is GREAT.
-full of toys in the waiting room as well as a big REAL wood boat that the kids can climb in
-TV's everywhere with Noggin on
-As you walk down the ahll they have paintings on the wall and this net that goes a very long was that has millions of stuffed animals in it.
-Each room is a different theme with Stuffed animals also and TV's.
-The kids get sunglasses to wear and the dentist shows them the gloves and jokes around with Malea before he starts to check her. She also sat on my lap and leaned back onto his for the first and second visit.
They are all great there and she loves to go. She gets a toothbrush and when she is older she can pick what flavor toothpast she wants
When she leaves she can pick a toy out of the toy box to take with her.
I wish I could go there to the dentist!!!!!
Really look into going to a ped dentist. I can't say enough great things about ours
By the way she loves going there becuase of this and asks to go again. Also when brushing her teeth will say dentist said to do this...LOL So cute. I really think it is all due to how they are with her.

Yes, very normal behavior for a 3 yr old. My daughter is 5 and we are going to a Ped Dentist later this month. Just yesterday we watched a little girl go to the dentist on a TV show. And I reminded DD we were going to dentist, etc. and this is what will take place. She started to scream and cry, etc. and doesn't want to go. I took my DD to a friend who is a dentist and we love her, but she is not a ped dentist. I think going to a ped dentist is the best thing for a child.

Good luck.
