OT: Marley & Me "review" - possible spoiler :)

oh. my. goodness. What a great, emotional movie!

One warning - DO NOT WEAR MASCARA to this movie!!
The man next to me started crying even before I did... and I have to admit that DH was crying by the end too.

Those of us who have given up chasing careers to chase children will REALLY relate to this movie!

Go see this movie, don't wear mascara and take a BUNCH of tissues!

It was AWESOME!!

PS PLEASEEEEE do not take your young children to see it. There was a woman in the bathroom afterward (everyone had to fix their make-up afterwards!) with her 8 or 9 year old daughter. The mom said, "My daughter was just bawling at the end." with a smile on her face.

I call that torture.

It is emotional and I'm sure it's no surprise since the press has been out for awhile now - that the dog dies in the end. I told DH there was NO WAY I'd take Jacob to see it because *I* had a hard time dealing with my emotions. I thought I was going to go into the "ugly cry"... I was definitely sobbing.

But it was WELL WORTH IT!

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!

We loved the movie, even my teenage nephews that went with us! Definitely a tear-jerker, but definitely worth crying over too!

I went last week and did bring my daughters. Didn't think they would really get the sad stuff, but they did. My youngest (just turned 2) teared up a couple of times. I don't think that's really an awful thing. Life has sad moments. They processed it and moved on in what I'd consider a healthy way. In hindsight, I would probably still take the girls. But, each parent needs to decide what his/her kids can handle.

Read the book and had a hard time at the end. Goes to show how much our pets are loved and big part of our families. I don't think I could see the movie. Doesn't surprise me that men were crying. Anyone that has had a good (or bad like Marley) knows how hard it is.

Anyone remember "Where the Red Fern Grows"? That was similar in nature for kids (dealing with the love of a pet and losing them).

Do I ever!!!

My entire family is just animal crazy. I will never forget holding my 6'5" father who was bawling when their Rudy died.

Jackson looks just like Marley! I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to see this movie - it would be like watching you won dog on screen!

As for teaching kids about grief, etc - of course I believe in helping our kids deal with life issues, but I personally would rather teach them that in my own home during a conversation, not after watching a dog die on screen. Plus, I was so emotional that I would have had a hard time talking with Jacob about it.
Yes, every parent knows their child's limitations and what they can deal with... but sometimes I just feel that we make them grow up and deal with things too quickly unnecessarily. JMHO

I have to admit that I never read the book because we too have a yellow lab and I didn't think I could handle it. DH convinced me to go see the movie the other night and boy was that a mistake! It was a good movie, but I went into the ugly cry and then cried for two hours when we got home. I sat on the couch with my beloved Molly and just snuggled with her and cried. She has and will always have a very special place in my heart! I know it sounds silly, but I LOVE her. Here is a picture of my favorite yellow lab and one of my best friends.

Carri - it doesn't sound silly - I love our dog too - even though we've only had her a few months AND she dug through my purse tonight and ate all my gum. So Marley-like, except she's a Jack Russell!
At least she has fresh breath now!

Just got home from this movie....FABULOUS and SAD and EMOTIONAL for me. My dh and I had "Gus", a lab/golden pound puppy for 12 years and our story with Gus ended just like the movie. We both held him at the vet's office as we had to say goodbye. The movie reminded me of lots of great Gus moments. Oh how much I miss him.

My mom called the other day when this first came out and wanted to take my boys to it. I didn't know much about the movie so I read the reviews and I am glad that I did. I made her take the boys to a different movie because I know my oldest (age 4) would have been very impacted by this. They won't be seeing this, and for me, I don't know if I will be either. I can barely think about my dogs passing without tearing up, I would definatly go into the ugly cry! I will wait until it's out on movie and I need a good cry.

Made me cry...

But I was glad I went to see it. Was rough during the final vet scene, because I just lost our beloved Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Thunder, last June. He was almost 13.

We miss him terribly, but still have his cohort, Lightning. And then, just 6 weeks after Thunder left us, my son found an abandoned kitten and brought her home. Her name is Ninja (though I call her Miss Thing sometimes...LOL). She filled up a bit of the hole in our hearts -- and we're not even cat people.

I think Thunder sent her to make us laugh.

I read the book (fabulous read, by the way) and could not even look at the cover for about a half hour afterwards, I was crying so hard.

I don't think I would see the movie, way too emotional for public. I'll wait for DVD.

Excellent story about life and what you can learn from your dog.
