I wish there were people who weren't 'pro-abortion'...but there are. I used to work for the United States House of Representatives. Constituents called our office to share their opinions about a variety of issues. There were callers who were very polite and articulated their views on both sides of the abortion issue thoughtfully, in a respectful manner.

There were those who, just as another poster stated, represented abortion as the only responsible option for some pregnancies, planned or unplanned. The reasoning offered was that, and I quote, "some people should just not have the right to have children." Adoption, if they raised it at all, was usually derided. Abortion was suggested as an act of kindness, sparing the baby from whatever life circumstance the caller thought should be avoided. Forced sterilization was often suggested.

We did not offer our personal views on the issue to callers ( they were irrelevant, we were there to take down the caller's thoughts and pass them on to the Member of Congress) just listened, thanked the caller for contacting the office and promised to share the information with the Congressman, which we did.

A while back there was a thread here dealing with racism, I think maybe it had to do with the election. I think I posted something about not believing that race was a major issue these days, because I don't know anyone who seems to be racist. Later I realized that I had forgotten a very important lesson I learned when I answered calls like the ones I mentioned above - just because you don't personally know people with certain viewpoints, doesn't mean they don't exist.
