How long did you wait to adopt #2?
Even though my DS hasn't even been home a year I wanted to start the adoption process again perhaps this summer. I know that whatever program I pick, it will take a year or more. I want no more than a 3 year difference between my children. Anyone else start again a year or so after the first adoption?
Oh, I haven't really discussed this with my husband yet. Any good pointers that may help in getting him aboard? I think that if I mention adoption he will picture two kids in the present not like a year or so from now.

We didn't wait long, so I don't think we're that typical, but I also think it was meant to be.
Maria was only home about 6 months when we accepted Flora's referral and brought her home after Maria had been home 1.5 years. OH...and initially I think my husband was in a bit of a state of shock, but once he thought about it for a few days he was just as excited as I was. I don't really know how to approach it except to say open honest discussions are probably your best course of action in my opinion. |

When our daughter was home a year, we started the paperwork for baby #2. We received the referral of our son a few months after we started the paperwork. It was a year from the time we started the paperwork until the time our son came home. Our children are about 21 months apart.

We are thinking of starting again... just none of the countries currently open are ones that we qualify for or don't wish to make numerous trips to. DD is 2 and has been home for a year. At this rate, if we don't do a domestic adoption, I think she'll be about 4 before we bring home another child.

We started our second adoption when our first daughter was only 14 months old (home at 4.5 months). Our girls are 15 months apart in age......DD#2 came home at 8 months old. When we started our first adoption we had NO idea that we would be starting another adoption so soon.
There are days when I love that the girls are so close in age...then there are days when I don't think the same thing . Like all sibling they have their good times being together and they (as my 3 year old says) "need their space". good luck with your next journey.

The agency I'm looking at won't let us begin until the most recently arrived child (in our case it'd be Zack) has been home 1 year. So we're thinking about beginning in April.

I had to laugh at this. When we submitted our paperwork for a Guatemala adoption we had anticipated adopting one, and then shortly there after, starting a second one. I had visions of two children 12-24 months apart. Hoping to make the process quicker, we got approval for two children.
Low and behold, two days after our paperwork was received, we got a call about twin boys. My DH and I had 24 hours to think about it. He told me that as a SAHM I would bear the bulk of the physical/mental/emotional stress that went along with adopting twins. I think he thought I would say "Thanks, but no thanks". Well, as you can see from my signature the rest is history. The moral of the story, be flexible in your timing. Things have a way of turning out for the best in the end...even if it is not quite the way you plan. Best of luck!

Ana came home at 1 yo, we started J's adoption 2 months later - they are 14 months apart in age. We are busy all the time but love every moment of it. The girls have their moments of 'disagreement' but it is usually resolved easily.

Our son was born last April, so he's 9 months old. We decided that once he is one, we'll start the process for another domestic adoption. We figure God will take care of the rest.
My DH was kind of surprized when I brought up a second adoption-he even said, "I've always been excited about the first adoption and picturing us as a family of 5 (counting our two nephews who live here) but I hadn't really thought of 6. But, hey, now that you mention it...." Hopefully yours will feel the same.

JR came home at 17 months and we started adoption #2 four months after he came home. We were not looking to adopt again, didn't even think about it. We became very good friends with my facilitator and she emailed me Julian's picture asking if I knew of anyone interested in his adoption. Well after taking one look at him I knew he was meant to be ours. DH was not on board but eventually changed his mind (I printed Julians referral pictures and placed them on his nightstand
) That helped!!! Well, Julian came home 8 months after starting his adoption. It ended up being on the same month as JR just a couple of days short of JR's 1st Gotcha Day. I'm very happy we decided to go for it. The boys share a very special bond.

Danny was 1-1/2 when I started Ricco's adoption. Being that I was an older mom, I felt I needed to move fast.

We adopted our Son 3 years before we started the process for Marissa. It took 9 mos. from our referral of Marissa when she was 3.5 mos. old. So she was 11 mos. old when we went to Guat. She and Vincent are almost exactly 3 years apart in age. We decided we wanted a girl, because we felt that same sex children are more prone to fighting over the same things?....... at least when they get older. So far, it's been wonderful and they're best buddies. I'm glad that we didn't wait any longer... Because one, we felt we were getting too old to wait and two, we didn't want any more years between the two of them. Maybe if you present it to your husband that way, he'll want to start the process again. As we all know, there are no guarantee's regarding the length of any process.... Domestic or International. Good luck! And I hope you start real soon!!!

We brought DD home from Guatemala in April 06 and accepted DS (Vietnam) referral in February 08. We brought him home 8 mos. later and they are almost exactly 2 years apart.
