Charities in Guatemala??

We have decided to give to charities this year in lieu of gifts for the adults in our family.

Please post your favorite charity in Guatemala and links if possible.

Are there any charities that are specifically helping the children who have been "left behind"?

Sorry if this was posted recently, I haven't been on the forums much lately.

Also - I know that there are great sponsorship opportunties, but we are looking at making a one-time donation, not setting up sponsorships since we all already have children that we sponsor.

THANKS!

My two personal favorite are:

Mayan Families - Mayan Families Guatemala I think most people here know about Mayan Families. They aren't specifically working with children that have been left behind, but supporting families in the Lake region.

Global Orphan Team - www.globalorphanteam.org This organization was started by two Guat Mommas. Their goal is to support the orphans who are either not adoptable, or who are currently caught up in the mess in Guatemala. They provide supplies and monetary support. Julia and Kerry have traveled to Guatemala a couple of times to set up relationships with hogars. I'm going at the end of March with them on their first mission trip (as are a couple other members of this forum). We are going to spend a week traveling to 3-4 hogars to love on the babies there. I'm very excited. This is a 503(c) organization, so all donations are tax deductible. They even have Holiday Cards that you can get and sent to people.

Safe passage helps the children who grow up living in the garbage dump in GC, or Behrhorst which has a lot of programs to support children and young families and focuses on sustainable development.

Compassion International allows for donations versus sponsorship.
