A couple of days ago a couple that I was sitting next two asked me if my daughter was Chinese. I get this a lot. I'm trying to figure out what decent she is but I can't find anything. Here is a picture of her. I need some help figuring this out sooo where do I turn YOU.
My daughter has fine dark brown hair, almond shaped eyes but big, a very round face, and lighter skin. My daughter must take after her BF because I don't think that she looks like her birthmom. Her birthmom has black hair and darker skin. She has big eyes but they do not look almond shaped to me. So what do you all think.

Guatemala has a very strong Asian influence. It's not uncommon for Guatemalans to have Asian characters.

I met a mother in a doctor's office and I swore her son was Vietnamese (to DH not to her). Nope, he was Guatemalan.

The Chubby cheeks look guatemalan.
The big eyes in the first picture look guatemalan.
The eyes in the second picture look chinese.

There is a large chinese population in GC. And the indigenous Guatemalans most likely came eons ago from asia trough asia (russia), alaska and down.

If you realy want to find out, National Geographic has a geonome project where they can ancestorial migraitons based on DNA. That might shed some light and might not, because with girls, you cannot specify that you want to find only ancestory through the fathers, like you can with boys. (it has to do with the x-y chormosome thing vs. the x-x chromosome thing)

Your little one is gorgeous! I get asked that question as well about my Naldo. I just say "he was born in Guatemala so he is Guatemalan."

My daughter is biracial (AA/cauc) but when she was a baby we got asked alot if she was Asian. My SIL kept trying to convince me also that she was Polynesian (I kept saying...I know the birth parents!!).

She is absolutely gorgeous!!

shes a DOLL!!!! I to get that, even though my DD looks like shes of mayan decent, she couls pass for chinese or even hawaiian...

I get that all the time with Almari. Everytime an asian family/person sees her they ask us. I don't see it but everyone else does.

Lots of people think my two kiddos are biological siblings even though DD's skin is quite a bit darker than DS's, and while DD has slightly almond shaped eyes (a lot like your daughters), DS's are much more so. It always makes me chuckle because they are from half a world apart.

We get asked by others if shes from Korea or China all the time. Ive only had one Asian person ask me outright but we do usually get looks from anyone Asian or Latino.
Her look varies based on how tired she is, what shes wearing, how her hair is that day, etc.

Once I got asked if she was from Cambodia.

I've been going for 8 years to the same Vietnamese nail salon...when I brought DS home they asked " are you sure he's guatemalan?" They thought I went to Vietnam but didn't want to offend them. In fact he looks alot like one of the nail techs

He is very Mayan looking (for those of us who are "in the know" ) But to others he does look Asian, in fact the first time one of my uncles saw him he said he looked like a little Eskimo - so I can see how Pacific Islander, Asian etc. might be confused with Mayan Indian??
