I know this has been posted but can somebody let me know what is good about facebook?
I keep up with 2 friends from high school and 2 from college. None are on Facebook. But a couple of friends in my area rave about it but I can't figure out what you can there that isn't done on email??
OK...I know I must be a dork (almost a 38 yr old dork). Can you guys help me???

Hi, I like facebook because it allowed me to get in touch with people from grade school all the way to college. People put pictures on their of their families. It's nice to just rekindle and go back to those years. My freshmen year of college was one of my best years, but things have happened and people all grew apart. The floor my dorm room was on was awesome and we all got along so well. My roommate from college and another friend have managed to almost find everyone who lived on that floor on facebook. We are now setting up a mini reunion for just our floor. Also, it's private to where only those you add as friends can see your info. I don't get too involved in because there is so much one can do on facebook, but I do search for people I've lost touch with and always wondered what they were doing now. I have family on there who will post me little notes and it's just fun. I'm sure others will chime in with more info. These are just my reasons.

I use FAcebook to keep track of literally dozens and dozens of people. It's easier than email and I can see all the pictures, etc at once. I like it.

I just started using it recently and got back into contact with lots of my former H.S. classmates. You can search by name or school.

Go to the "Friends" tab on the blue bar at the top of your "home" page. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and type in the name of the person you are searching for under "Search for People." You can also search by school. Sometimes it's hard to find people because they may not have listed their maiden name. If you do find a friend, check out their friend list. You can add friends that way as well.

I've made contact with high school and college friends that I haven't talked to in YEARS. (I won't say how many)

I actually made contact with a girl from high school. She and her husband are trying to adopt from Russia with little success. It's been very nice to be able to support her through her process. I literally haven't seen/talked to her in almost 19 years.

I've also connected with lots of Guat mamas.

I'm out-of-fashion. I don't understand the appeal of Facebook or Myspace.

Perhaps it's generational. If you're an "almost-38 dork," I'm a "solidly-38 dork!"

i'm a 40 year old dork, and i love facebook.
i use facebook to keep in touch with local and not so local friends.
i have reconnected with a number of people from my past that i adore.
but mostly i play games (told you i was a dork) boggle, scrabble, anagrams, etc. with friends and strangers alike.

i won't accept any friends though that i don't know pretty well or that might be offended by my mouth, my leftie politics and my other snarky friends.
i offend enough people that i know well, i'd hate to add acquaintances to that list.

39 yo facebook lovin' dork here.....It helps me keep up with people I work with, my students, family, hs & college friends not to mention lots and lots of Guate families (many of whom I don't actually know IRL, but I feel like I do) as well as my friends that are actually in Guatemala.

I love it!! I have "met" so many guate families and am thankful for that network of friends plus catching up with old friends. (this is how cantwait2bmommy and I met and we have set up an arranged marriage for our children HA)

I know there are a lot of people who use it, but it's a personal preference. I have no interest in it. Even if I did get in touch with people from the past, I will probably never get together with them, so I don't see what the point of it is. I do know a lot of people who rave about it too and my friends bug me to join too, but I have no interest I guess I am a non-conformist

46 yr old FB dork. Though I look like a 36 year old FB dork thanks to Botox! OK...not really, but I'm considering it. Hey...what's a little botulism injection, that paralyzes my face. As they say..."To look good, is to feel good!"

I just joined FB too. And I'm a total rookie. Though Dee Vee and Gatos, and a few other Forum members are trying to teach me the ropes. I think, though I'm not totally sure yet, that you can share pictures and video with a bunch of folks at the same time.

Look me up. We can be FB dork friends!

I have mixed emotions about Facebook. In some ways it's interesting to keep up with family and friends, and I also like to play the word games against friends. However, I also really am not that interested in keeping up with most of the folks from high school and college. I figure that if the interest was really there-we would have kept in touch on our own.

LOL Yup, totally addicting, I agree! I really find the Guate community on FB AWESOME!!!!! If I post a pic of my daughter or an update on my son's case, I pretty much instantly get feedback from "friends". Everyone is very supportive!!! Add to that the whole arranged marriage aspect and it is a very powerful tool. LOL Maybe we will actually meet at the rehearsal dinner, Jeck???!!!!!
