Go for it.

My stepdaughter has 4 kids, ages 8, 3, 1, and 4 months. The 3 y/o and baby are boys. We are getting them a kitchen set for Christmas primarily because the 3 year old loves playing with the one at our house. My stepdaughter wasn't too sure about it, but after she saw her son playing with one at a doctor's office play area, she is now sure it will be the best Christmas present ever. We got a Step2 one that isn't girly at all, but even if it was I don't think he would care one bit.

Thomas plays with his big sister's Dora kitchen all of the time. Doesn't bother me a bit.

In my kindergarten class the boys (who are 5 and 6) play in the kitchen just as much as the girls. So...I think you would get a few years of use out of it.

Antonio and Giovanni have one. They love it. I must say that Antonio starts "cooking" and ends up washing a truck, car or dino. But it is really cute. Mine is not big and its very simple. Along side it is there work bench.
(thanks Dee)/

just so happens we don't care if our boy is straight or gay but really...playing with a kitchen be it pink, sparkly, or made of rhinestones isn't going to affect your child's gender identification or future sexuality or affectation no matter how you slice it.

imho that is the underlying (conscious or subconscious) implication when people think boys shouldn't play with kitchens (and dolls, vacuums, etc.)

we have a red kitchen for our son, but only because we don't like pastel-y colored stuff out and about at our house. his vacuum is pink, and his phone is pink AND fluffy. and he has a bunch of dolls that he loves to nurse.

get him a kitchen. he'll love it for years. it's great when other kids come to play.

My son had one and played with it for years. We still have it and my daughter barely touches it. There is nothing wrong with boys playing with kitchen sets! I picked ours up used at a consignment store. It was outside on display when my hubby was away on a biz. trip (he wasn't took keen on the idea of a kitchen set). When he realized how well it occupied my son and how much my son absolutely loved it, he was quite thankful and enthusiastic about it! It has a pink faucet, but who cares!

Both genders love the kitchen sets. I think there is one that is a BBQ set. Maybe some one can help you out. Anna

Our son is 16 months and Santa is bringing a great little kitchen set I got at JCpenny for 39.00 along with some pots & pans and play food. He loves to play in the cupboards and with my pans. Like a lot of the other boys he loves to play with a baby doll as well as traditional "boy" toys. We also have an older son (10) who loves to take hip hop dance. He is always the only boy at the recitals and I have heard other parents make comments. I try to encourage our children to follow what they love regardless of what others may say or think. Go for the kitchen he'll love it!

boys and kitchen sets

My DH was the one that wanted to buy Anthony a kitchen set. Anthony loved playing with the one at daycare and church, DH bought him one for his adopted birthday and Anthony plays with it all the time. He's always "fixing" me dinner and I love it. I hope that when he grows up he will continue to love to be in the kitchen.

Our boys have been begging for a kitchen.
I actually found two used but very cheap and in good condition....
HUGE fan of Craig'slist here!!!

Our oldest Son has been begging for a tea set... so he picked out the Barbie tea set. Guess what? It will be under the tree for him. Both E and K want to be princesses.... it's fine... they are 3.... they are using their imaginations. Doesnt bother me one bit...but I do get a kick out of it sometimes cuz I think it's cute.
Our little girl... she is getting a doll...but she is also getting hot wheels just like her brothers. She loves them.. .and she also loves her brothers dinosaurs that roar.

Personally, I sure dont fit my gender stereotypes... I dont want to corral my kids into them....

My son has a kitchen and loves it. I am so tired of the gender stereotyping in the stores. I wanted to buy him a doll, but try finding a boy doll, made for boys, that is not that expensive. We got a small one and he does not play with it much, so I won't buy another one, but come on! Even the boy dolls out there are packaged for girls.
I also got him a little people doll house- not pink, gender neutral, although the father is holding a cell phone. WE just got this and he has not played with it too much, but time will tell. He has a stroller also that he loves.
He also loves balls and trucks and climbing and traditionally boy associated activities.
I agree that he will be what he will be no matter what I "let" him play with.

My son loves the play kitchen at daycare. I wish we had enough room at home for one. I think it's perfectly normal for little kids of both genders to play at doing everyday grownup activities like cooking, ironing, mowing the lawn, etc. Not like DS sees me doing much ironing or mowing! I avoid these activities as much as possible! LOL
