I know this sounds awful, but we are seriously contemplating not sending Christmas cards this year. Mostly because we are swamped and have so much going on. We would still send immediate family and very close friends cards, but no longer mail the usual 100+ cards we send. We thought we would save the $75 or so and donate it to charity. Those who are close to us see us and hear from us frequently, and also get photos that we upload online, etc.

We are doing lots of Christmas'y things and it's not that I am feeling "bah humbug"....I just don't want to do it this year. Is that weird???!! Or wrong?

I have done that multiple times- I think the choice is yours, you have to do what is best for your family and your situation. I never worry when I send out cards that I will not get cards back from that family or friend. I do what I want to do to celebrate the season.

Whatever you decide- do what is right for your family and your situation.

I probably won't be. I'm tired, stressed and busy. I think it's perfectly fine to take a year off.

We aren't either. We wanted to but ran out of time, money, and energy Maybe next year. I also agree it is perfectly acceptable to take a year off!

We send Valentine's Day cards. Not much going on in February...

But even if you skip a year, two years, many years, I would not sweat it for a second.

I only send "if my heart is in it."

I'm not sure this year either.... I just don't know how to word our cards... four of our kiddos still aren't home and I just don't know what to say...

Next Year I am making a book to send....hehehe

You do what ever you feel is right for you... I don't think you can get kicked out of the "Christmas Club" for missing a year.....

P.S. I have a friend who sent 4th of July Cards Last year. We All Loved them!

Well we are sending cards (i have lots of out of town relatives i dont see much, but still want to stay in contact with), BUT, i have often wondered how long it would be before people start sending electronic christmas cards as a standard instead of paper ones. I like that idea.

you could try sending emails to anyone you have an email address for (same email to everyone with attached xmas photo) and we always 'prune' our xmas card list every year - it never gets beyond 60 cards total - but do what is right for you and your family

I have thought about stopping simply because so many people I know have stopped sending them. I feel like I send out far more than I get. And I know that's not really the point...but I really have shortened my list in the last couple of years. I probably only send out 25 cards...just to close family/friends.

I thought of the electronic one, but I think it might be viewed as impersonal, although I guess it is better than nothing. I think we may just skip it, send a few hand written or hand-chosen cards to closest friends. We're giving little gifts to my kids' teachers, I'll see all of my immediate family for Xmas and it's a gift frenzy - they certainly don't need cards, and well - I think that's it for this year!

i agree with cameron's mom...so i just don't think i'll get around to it. last year i was cutting it close also, so i turned a picture of the 2 little boys into a card, and then i got a dozen phone calls asking what happend to our older kids. lol....i guess they were afraid we sent them off packing to a boarding school or something. lol. so...since i have no time for a whole family pic. i think i'll pass, too.

I'm sending cards! I love getting them. I love the folks that write the letters so that I can know what is going on with them. My boys love looking at them so I'm hoping lots of people send us cards! We're not great at keeping in touch with extended family and other friends so this is a perfect opportunity for us to communicate!

I've often wondered too when it will get to the point of just electronic cards. The problem with e-cards is I'm betting most of the time the only family member who actually sees the card is the person it was sent to. Doubt many print it off and share it with the family.

OMG, I know someone will shoot me for saying this but I never understood the "all about us" Christmas letter and think it's so tacky. Okay...enough bah-hum-bugging from me
