Totally OT -- MP3 / Media Player Christmas Present?
My DD is 4! While @ the Dr's office for her 4 y.o. checkup we ran into a "cousin" w/ her neice which is 4y.o. as well and DD's BFF. Cousin was letting her neice play w/ her MP3. Needless to say DD and BFF shared ear buds and listened together! DD LOVED IT.
So I searched TRU and Amazon for MP3 and they have disney / barbie / hello kitty ... lots that would work for younger children. But is 4 too young???????? BTW, I am an older single mother with no MP3 or Ipod knowledge! Most of her Christmas gifts are "functional / education" so I wanted one really "WOW" gift??? Also, while searching for the MP3, Disney popped up there Media Player which has MP3 funtionality as well as WMV functionality.... Anybody have these? What do you think? Thanks for sharing? |

I am venturing into this area this Christmas as well. My 6yo is getting the Apple Ipod shuffle for Christmas and I am just starting to figure it all out. I picked that one because it is small, comes in her favorite color and because her cousin also had one which is also how we stumbled on to it.
Good Luck, from one single mom to another!

fisher Price used to have their on MP3 player called the FP3 player. They discontinued it last year. I don't know why but it was really great/user frendly for ages 3 +. It comes w/pre-programed kid songs and a few stories loaded but you can also downloan your own songs too.
You can still find new and used ones on eBay. That might be a good start for a 4 year old.

You need to think both of the player and the source of music. I'm a big fan of subscription services like Rhapsody where I pay $15 a month and can download as much music as I want to to three MP3 players. Some people think it is worth actually buying music but this is too expensive and I get tired of music after a while. Rhapsody has lots of kids music, although it doesn't have Sesame Street, which I wish it would fix.
As to players, flash-based players are cheap. You can pick up cheap ones almost anywhere, even like Walgreens and places like that. Get a cheap one, load up some favorite music and if it gets lost, it isn't a big deal. |
