ask your agency...i'd start there....if they don't facilitate a collection, contact someone else's agency. i have sent stuff down both through my agency and someone else's.

It's very expensive to ship things down. You might be better off selling the items then donating the $ towards a Guatemalan charity. That's what I do.

You can join MayanFamilyConnections. It's a yahoo group and we have shoe drives, clothing drives all the time. We then send the stuff to Guatemala through Mayan Families. You send it to the shipping coordinator and she or he sends it to Guatemala. It's a great organization and they are happy to get the items that are sent.

Another organization that accepts donations of gently worn shoes and clothing is Orphan Resources International. You get it to their warehouse in PA, and they ship it. From there it gets distributed to the orphanages that they work with.

I was going to mention that, but it still cost $17 a square foot. So, it can add up fast.

Some shipping companies will give a discount, it can't hurt to ask. Do you know any churches or missionaries who work in Guat? They could probably hook you up with a cheap shipping method.
We had a friend donate things to Kyrgyzstan and a missionary there connected her to shipping company that donates free shipping for humanitarian supplies. |
