Well, I received Angelos Packet back from NY and it only a couple days over a month.

In comparing Angelena's and Angelo's packet I found some interesting information....

BUT, Angelo's packet contained way less info than Angelena's. But I did get some more Pictures!~

I also found some conflicting info...

I also found that the Birth Mothers address is the same in both packets...

Very interesting things in it! I think I will wait a while to do the other form.

You need to file USCIS form G884 with the last office that took action on your child's case. If you need help with it, let me know.

I got the info from the G884 but what is the other form?

There is also a Freedom of Information form. G639?? I can't remember the number for sure.

I have no reason to believe I didn't receive everything from the G884 so I have never bothered, but I know some people have talked about filing the Freedom of Information form to see if they could get anything else. Not sure if anyone has sucessfully gotten anything from it or not.

I thought that all requests now had to go to Buffalo? Or am I completely lost. I, too need to get on this.

Also, we have our readoption complete, so Caleb's name is changed. I still need to get his updated COC. Do I need to change the name on his COC before I can request the information in the infamous sealed envelope? I heard the COC change takes like 6 months? I'd appreciate your help.

Everything about USCIS is confusing! I think they do it on purpose so people will give up and not bother them.

The G884 needs to be sent to the last office that took action on the case.

If your child came home on an IR3, it would go to the Buffalo office that issued the COC. If your child has been home more than 15 months or so, the packet has probably made its way to the National Records Center in Lee's Summit MO. The Buffalo office is usually good about forwarding the request if the packet has in fact been sent for filing. So if in doubt I would send it to Buffalo.

If your child came home on an IR4, the G884 should be sent to the office that issued their Green Card. Or, if you have readopted (or whatever the process in your state) and gotten a COC, it would go to the office that issued the COC. Usually your local office.

You can file the G884 at any time after you receive your child's origional COC or Green Card. In fact, my personal opinion is do it sooner rather than later while you can be pretty confident where the packet is.

Kris - No you do not have to wait. The N565 to get an updated COC goes to one of two service centers and they dont' need the packet to issue it. Only the old COC and the name change info. (And of course the form.) Both service centers actually seem to run pretty quick from what I see posted here. I would expect more like 2-3 months, but of course that is no guarantee.


I dont' have it in front of me but there is a number and email for the Buffalo office that I have posted before here and you can also find on Guatadopt. You can email or call them and they can track your child's packet using your child's A# if you are in doubt as to where it might be. (On their visa in their passport and on their COC if they have one.) Generally they are very helpful.
