Knock on wood... our daugher is and has been healthy. She goes to preschool and gets a runny nose every now and then. I count my blessings all the time.

Oh man, Owen is so healthy--DH and I got the flu a couple of wks ago, and he didn't miss a beat. He gets colds and runny noses but that's it. Well, ear infections, too, but still, no major illnesses. I'd better quit talking about it now so I don't jinx it.

I hope I don't jinx our good luck here, but Daniel has been pretty darn healthy since he came home in February. He had a couple bad colds and an ear infection while still in Guatemala, but nothing of the kind since coming home. He does get lots of runny noses and some coughs at daycare. The pediatrician says it's normal for a child to get 10 different viruses in the first year of daycare! But we'd rather Daniel go though this now, so by the time he starts school his immune system will be better developed and he hopefully won't get as sick later.

My oldest DD is 6, home at 6 months, and has had roseola, influenza once, strep throat twice, and rotavirus once. That is it. She never catches colds, was in the school district preschool and missed maybe one day of school in 2 years and is in kindergarten now and has yet to miss a day of school (knock on wood). My younger DD had a serious kidney infection at age 18 months, and is a bit more likely to catch colds, but other than that, she is very healthy too. She is also in preschool two days a week, and goes to the local elementary school once a week for speech, and gymnastics weekly. Plus their mom is a pediatrician, who brings all kinds of germs home, I'm sure. But they are remarkably healthy.

Maya seems to be sick all the time. I was just talking to my mom about it over the holiday. She came home (2 years in March) with a runny nose and it hasn't ever stopped...I don't think we have gone over 24 hours without having to wipe the poor girls nose. She seems to have asthma and many allergies. She started at Easter Seals pre-school this fall and she gets everything and I mean EVERYTHING that is going around the classroom and then we spread it to the other 5 in the family . I keep hoping she builds up some resistance soon I hate seeing her uncomfortable!!

Both of my boys have been home 2 and 3 years and both of them have never had a sickness other then a cold. It's amazing, but I often think too that they got a strong immune system from living in Guatemala.

Ava is amazingly healthy. With our older DS (bio) it seemed like he gets sick everytime he walks into a Walmart...he once licked the shopping cart and was seriously sick for a week. Ava constantly has her hands in her mouth, is snacking in the carts, etc and NEVER picks anything up. It is incredible! I always figured that she is just immune to it all. She does have acid reflux - but that is it...We are very lucky!

I have to say that I am VERY envious of those of you with healthy kids.

When we picked up our son in Guat he was sick...upon arriving home he got sick often. I worked part time at a day care, so he went as well. He caught EVERYTHING that went around the classroom he was in. Typically if we went more than two days in a row, I knew he would end up sick. Over time, his ears kept getting infected and were filled with fluid, so he had tubes put in. The tubes helped tremendously. He still got sick, but colds didn't last as long and weren't as intense. He got stomach bugs all the time...he has had strep a couple times...he had fifths disease...He just doesn't have a strong immune system. He continues to get sick all the time even though I am now a SAHM.

My daughter on the other hand has a much stronger immune system. She does not get sick nearly as often and doesn't usually catch whatever Brayden has. However, when she does get sick, she does it good. She is just now getting over being sick for the last two weeks. It wasn't anything serious...just lasted FOREVER!!! We are still dealing with a remaining diaper rash.

So, both my kids are from Guat. One gets sick ALL the time and the other has a pretty strong immune system.

Eva is an incredibly healthy child. DH and I are always marveling at this. She has only had one minor cold, one inflamed ear (it wasn't even infected), and one cold that turned into bronchitus when she first came home. All spring, summer, and fall she has not been sick once. I never worry about exposing her to germs because I think it is good to build their immune system up but she never gets sick anyway. I always wondered if it had to do with coming from a 3rd world country.

Ugh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has looked down to see her kids tasting the Wal-Mart shopping cart handle. I don't try to shield the kids from germs, but eeeeeew.

My 3 older kids were sick all the time when they were little. The oldest had 2 sets of tubes and my 3rd had 1 set. I missed 13 days of work the school year after my oldest was born. Eddie and Naldo definitely seem healthier than my older ones were in the preschool years. They both have had colds, but only a few ear infections. Eddie has had 3 bouts of pneumonia, but other than those occasions he has been healthy. I breastfed my older 3 and I am assuming the younger ones were exclusively formula fed and I feel the younger ones have been healthier overall. Maybe there are just so many germs in the house that their immune systems are jacked up just to survive.

My two from Guat are generally well. DD occasionally picks up what comes around but usually isn't nearly as sick as her cousins or the kids at church. That said, early this fall she had an on and off fever and cold for four days which about an all time record for a fever for her. Last year she had a couple colds, but nothing major.

DS (five yrs) has been home 15 months and has NEVER been sick, not one time. It may have to do with his immune system-- he was in an hogar and therefore exposed to quite a bit at a young age, but often strains of things vary quite a bit region to region which would mean he shouldn't be all that exposed the variations of viruses here. I tend toward thinking it's more of a stress response than anything. He lives in a state of "high alert" and is probably too much on guard to get sick. But honestly, given all the issues we deal with around here, I'll gladly accept his not getting sick!

Tati came home at 9 mos and is now 2 1/2. she hasn't had anything but a runny nose a couple of times and one little tummy bug. I have been a SAHM since she came home but she is exposed to other little ones often. We are very thankful that she has been so healthy so far. I hope I haven't Jinxed it because it is awful close to Christmas
