Michigan Question

Just wondering if anyone from Michigan knows how long it took to get the foreign adoption birth certificate, and the name change back. I think we have been waiting around 7 weeks now. I sure would like to get the COC changed soon and get her a SS#. (I was waiting for her new name). Any info would be appreciated. D

Mind you it has been 3.5 years, but we got both of ours quite quickly. Under 6 weeks I would say.
It may also vary by the county. We are in Wayne County and they do the name change at the court appointment and then send a copy of it to Vital Records requesting that the Delayed Registration of Foreign Birth be issued. So depending on how quick the court is to mail the request would affect how long it took.

So not much concrete information, but for what it is worth!

You might call the court or Vital Records in Lansing and see if they can give you the status.

Good luck!

We're in Oakland County and it only took a couple of weeks to get the order back from the court and then a couple more weeks to get the birth certificate from the state. I would call the court and find out what the delay is.

I am in Washtenaw County....

It has varied for us.... E's took about 4 months to process.... we did it in early Nov.

K's only took about 6 weeks... F's took 3 months but that was because they "flagged" our application because we asked for multiple copies of the bc.... They called us and sent us a letter and then it was only a couple of weeks after that...

We have been lazy and havnt done our daughters stuff yet.... but we will after the holidays....

I would call Lansing and see what the holdup is... it does seem like a long time especially if they have not contacted you to say there is a problem.

I'm in Wayne county and did this in February '07 - I want to say it took about a month, not as long as I expected. I did get my son's SS# in his first name and changed it when I got his new birth certificate, but that solely for tax purposes and the adoption credit.
