OT - Wii Fit?

Does anyone have it? Can you really get a good workout from it?? I work out pretty hard (gym, running) and I am a bit skeptical about using it to really and truly "work out" - and I don't like yoga - just cannot get into it. Just found out my MIL is getting it for hubby and I (he doesn't work out at all...not that I think this will help!!) I know I sound negative about it...someone enlighten me

we love wii fit. the little boys (nearly 3, and 5) LOVE the wii yoga and other aerobic and balance games. you can work up a slight sweat if you play for a while. if you are not used to working out, you will work up quite a sweat. there is step aerobics, boxing, skiing, soccer, yoga, running.....quite a few things. we really like it because we are a media family....but this also keeps us active. if dh doesn't work out at all, this may encourage him to log a few hours a week. my dh is addicted to wii fit.

it's fun, but not really a great workout...
the yoga, strength training etc has spaces too long between exercises.
the cardio isn't really sustained cardio either.

if you're getting it for entertainment go for it. for exercise for a couch potato, get it. otherwise, i'd say not so much.

We have it too...I don't think it could replace working out at the gym, but it is a great alternative now and again. I did, however, purchase the Jillian Michaels "game" that recently came out. Now, that game in combination with the Wii Fit definitely works me out pretty hard. I work up an intense sweat and feel it the next day.

I think it's great for those days that I want to be active, but don't want to get on the bike, or leave the house. The best Wii workout that I get is when DH and I spend 30 minutes boxing with each other! I think it all depends on how hard you go at it- one of my friends is currently in air splints from shin splints caused by Wii fit jogging, and I've had to take my share of ibuprofen from shoulder and wrist overuse on tennis. (I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that, though).

ETA: I can't believe my 100th post is about Wii- but I love the thing!!!

I like the Wii Fit, but it is really not much of a workout. I run a lot, and do pilates and zumba at least 4 times a week. Wii Fit is like a vacation for me! I do enjoy it, though. Especially the balance games! The yoga is kinda hinky, though, because you have to reset it to do each pose. I would rather do an hour long yoga session that flows into each other. You do each pose separately.
My husband (who hates exercise) loves it. He loves the boxing and the balance games. I have to admit, he is better at the balance stuff than I am. I can run, but balance, no way!

The Jillian Michaels combines "jogging" with different strength activities. Some of the strength activities include gernade throwing (you squat to pick up the gernade...then throw it), log jumping (squats), tire running, monkey bars (killer on the arms), kick boxing, and a few more I can't remember right now. I like that it combines cardio with strength. As you continue the game, you earn tips...fitness tips, eating tips, vacation exercise tips, etc...

I do have to say that it took me a few tries to really "get" a few of the exercises and I consider myself a pretty fit and coordinated person. Once I got it, I love it. The game also tells you your weight.

I am sure there is more to it...I haven't explored every aspect of it. Hope that helps.

I enjoy Wii Fit when I can't get out to do something else. It's not the greatest workout but it's okay. You kind of get out of it what you put into it.

I'm getting the Jillian Michels game for Christmas so I'm looking forward to that!

I like it. But I do agree it doesn't flow from one thing to the next. Too much inbetween time. The hula hoop gives a good work out if you do the extended one. Not to mention Carter gets a kick out of watching me do it. He always says "Do it again mommy"
