Coffee! You could sell it at your fund raiser. We brought back "Concepcion Candelaria" arabica coffee. YUM! We got some in June and it was so good I spend part of a day just visiting shops in GC looking for it. (One of the shops around the corner from McDonalds near the Marriott has it. If they don't they can get it in a few days.) This is the best coffee I have ever tasted.

Have a good trip!

My pottery coffee mug and my table runner. My mom loves the nativity she bought too. And I have some great jade pieces but those are personal so I don't know that they would be easy for you to bring back to sell. Although we bought the earrings my daughter had her ears pierced with and have since lost one and I hate that. I think I can buy them online but haven't done it yet.

And the thing I wish I bought more of? COFFEE!!! What I've bought here and ordered just isn't the same. I miss the coffee.

Looks like I have a very tall order to fill!! LOL!! I'm leaving in 29 1/2 hours for the airport but I will have internet access while I'm in Guatemala so if any of you truly want a certain something from Guatemala I would be willing to also pick that up for you. I can ship it as soon as I return and once I'm home I can let you know the price I paid for it and what the shipping will be and then you could pay for it and i'll send it out! NO EXTRA CHARGES!! Consider it my treat for the holidays!!
So if anyone wants me to pick something up in a certain size, color, or a particular thing just email me at vbayouangel@aol.com and I'll do my best to get it while I'm there!! Think it will be to your house in time for the holidays too since i come home on the 10th!!

Two trips to Guatemala and hands down my favorite thing I bought is a carved wooden nativity set where all the figures (joseph, mary, shepherds, wisemen, etc.) are carved with mayan facial features and clothes. It was a $100 and I don't regret buying it. We've had it for two Christmas's now and it is SO special to me. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I also have several clay pottery nativity sets that I bought there, but this carved wooden one is truly phenomenol. I wish I had a second, because when my daughter is grown, I'm going to have a hard time parting with it. LOL She'll definitely get a clay pottery one to take with her. We'll have to see about the wooden one though.

we bought the girls hand-made blankets .. I had a friend put a piece of cloth fabric on the back to hide the yarn in the back .. we love them!
We also go the clay nativity ... I have it on display all year. And the JADE jewelry that I got we love! AS well as 2 rosary braclets for the girls.

I bought dozens of woven cosmetics bags and purses, some of which have a mayan doll sewn to the corner. The little T-shirts with Guatemalan children embroidered ont hem are also a huge hit. I bought them in every size so Henry could wear them a long time. I think I paid $2-5 for each, so you could sell them for much more here.

Lots of great .. but didn't see one of my other favorite items --- cloth!!!

We got some cloth and made a raggedy ann for DD and a tie for my blue jean purse ..etc... I love having the cloth so we can intergrate into our clothing and play items each year!

This won't help your fund-raiser much, but my favorite thing from Guate is my adoption ring. I designed it and had a jeweler make it for me. It is silver w/a green jadestone and a lavender jadestone.

My favorites that we have is the nativity set and Christmas stocking. I also have a nice cross for John's room. And a stuffed animal that I have had John hold for his Homecoming pics the last 2 years and hope to continue as long as I can!

What I wish I had was another Christmas stocking (for some reason I only bought one!), some traditional clothes for boys.

Have a wonderful and safe trip!

Ok I've only scanned thru the first 2 pgs of this thread, so if this has been mentioned, sorry:
but HATS....I bought Connor a gorgeous woven hat, beautiful colors of course, and then with Cristian never did get to get out and get any more. Hats are unisex and I'm sure would go like hotcakes!
And yes, I second (or third or fourth, etc!) the boys clothing. I see dresses and girls mayan clothing a lot on ebay and other sites...but I have a hard time finding any traditional boys' clothing.
Also.....COFFEE....didn't see this mentioned yet either, but I've heard the coffee is great AND the bags they come in? AngelQT wasnt' this you who was bonkers over the coffee bags? Chime in!

The thing I regret not getting is blankets. I would have loved to have my daughter sleep under a blanket from Gutaemala....hand-made of course....If you get some of those, PM me as I would like to buy one.
