Message from our foster mom. Have you had this conversation?
I still communicate via email with our foster mom. She always asks how Addie is doing and she tells me about the sweet foster kids that she has. This time when she wrote she said that her eldest daughter graduated school (awesome, huh) and also that she is not able to do foster care anymore (because of the status of adoptions) and that she is now working in a shopping center. That makes me so sad. About a year ago she sent us an email saying that if adoptions stopped she didn't know what she was going to do because the foster care was a good majority of their income.
Has anyone else had this conversation with people in guat/fostermoms?

We talk with Jorge's FF almost 2-3 per month and they're still looking for work to replace the income from fostering. Jorge and Celia (Hesa's DD) were their first and only foster children so it's not like this is all they've known for years and years, but it was a source of income that they're hurting for now that it's gone.
So sad that there are good homes that could help raise the many children in need if only the right system could be established.

yeah we just has this conversation with both of my boys foster families. My youngest son's FM is babysitting 2 little kids full time to make income and my oldest son's FM is now working in a coffee shop. That is so sad, what a change of life, especially because she is older and a wonderful Foster mother who has cared for over 50 children.

We stay in touch with our older dd's foster family. Foster mom was the supervisor for all foster moms employed by the attorney for 8 years. To date she has not found any permanent job (was selling water bottles door to door for a while). Her oldest daughter was working for a bit but her boss said she couldnt work any more since she isnt 18 yet. Its so sad! FM is single with 3 kids and her mom was a foster mom too so their income is gone also. Us and another family who's dd she fostered pitch in and pay for her kids to go to school. Its actually far less expensive that we thought it would be but just unrealistic for her to afford.

Hey Mandy,
As you might remember, I speak Spanish and keep in touch w/fm as well. She is now out of a job and home. She said she just "wants to be a mama again." She also said that babies have been left on the streets and that the government is paying very little to the orphanage workers so she doesn't want to take a job w/the govt. I didn't agree with a lot of the old system but this is surely not a good solution either. I wish the lawyers and the government could have just come together with a sensible solution. But alas, politics and corruption are not good partners. Let's just hope that eventually there can be a better way. Best,
