THE WORST WORST COMMENT I HAVE HAD....

So, did that women pop out anymore kids to sell...

LET ME TELL YOU... THAT TOOK THE CAKE... I DIDN'T LET THAT ONE GO BY... TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THIS... THAT PERSON HAS MORE RESPECT FOR ME NOW, THEN THEY EVER DID... SHE UNDERSTANDS I WILL NOT LET ANYTHING LIKE THAT BE SAID ABOUT MY CHILDREN AND THEIR BIRTHMOTHER!~

I can't really say what I said or did, on here, as I have WAY more respect for my friends!

HUGS

To Kirbystarcat - Wow, stepmother seems like a real gem (not). How completely rude and ignorant! Try to dry your tears and chalk it up to ignorance.

Not a family member, but the comparisons to getting a puppy reminded me of an experience I had.

DH and I had just finished up all the testing to figure out why we weren't able to conceive. All the tests came back fine and the reasone why is inconclusive. At that point, I was all done being poked, proded and "violated"...as I am sure many of you can relate.

Anyway, it was time for the consultation with the doctor to discuss next steps. The doctor was pushing for IVF. Our insurance did not cover it, and we did not want to put all kinds of money into something that might not work. So, we decided to start the adoption process. When we told the doctor, he stated that we should really try IVF...adopting is like getting a puppy. He even went on to say that two young, attractive people like us would create such a beautiful child. I am so tempted to bring my "puppies" into his office to show them off!

Needless to say, we NEVER went back there again!

Grandmother said:

"her hair is so black, it's blue. Did you dye it?" Yes, I dyed an one year olds child hair..seriously!! Then in the same conversation she said "so I guess your going to keep her."

Wife of friend said recently about dd who came home at 6.5 months and is now 22 months and chatting up a storm:

"I can't believe she doesn't have an accent."

I know these "lovely" comments that family members have made were not so funny at the time but I couldn't help but get a good chuckle. Especially the ones about the preference to latin foods and the spanish language somehow being genetically coded in their DNA.

This topic is one I have to respond to.

We were in-process for 14 months and as you all know the dossier etc... took a long time so....all in all a very long wait to get our son home from Guatemala.

My brother visited my house once shortly after our son came home and I saw him a couple months later at his house and this came out of his mouth...
'what country did he come from again?' I was speechless for a bit, then just said, 'guatemala'.

What I thought was-Uhhhh... yeah I guess you didn't read our regular update emails for the past 14 months A-hole.
When I first told my brother about our adopting from guatemala he began discussing the illegal immigration issue, and I said, Uh...I don't see what illegal immigration has to do with my adopting an orphaned baby from another country? He changed the subject.

A coworker said ' oh, why didn't you go american?' I said, hey I am adopting a baby, not buying a car. He stammered and tried to explain the question further and I had to educate him about the complexities of adopting and how it is a personal decision.

The lady at cvs said, 'did he come with a name?' Uh...yeah. I straightened her out too. politely. She is actually very excited to see us whenever we go into cvs.

Just a few of my 'favorites'. Ugh!!!!!!!!!

Someone told me, "Imagine how happy your husbad would have been if you had a real child."
I responded by saying that my child is "real" and that this is the son that my husband and I had prayed for. Therefore, my husband is elated!!!!!!!

I have heard TONS of rude comments, at first they bothered me to the point of tears, but now I have come to realize that most people don't mean any malice. Most rude/insensitive comments come from ignorance, and I take the comment that way - with a grain of salt. I guess you can say that I have developed a thick skin - although extremely aware that sometimes my kids are listening...

One of my family members said "I think it would be better if a child was raised with people of their own culture even if it means they are in an orphanage". What?????? By the way, he doesn't work for UNICEF just yet.
