American girl doll- which one???

I was thinking about getting my 4 yr. old the Josephina doll. I believe she is of Mexican heritage. There is another doll with Indian heritage. Which one would you get your daughter??? I am leaning toward Josephina (so cute...)
Thanks,
barb

I debate over the same thing. It is close, but if I had to buy today (we are still doing Bitty Baby right now) I would buy Josephina.

My 3 yo wants Kaya because she looks like Pocahontas, and is an "Indian Princess" just like her. Hard to refuse that logic. We have been over that catalog so many times it is worn out Interestingly, she has never given Josefina a second glance...Felicity is her second choice---probably because she likes her clothes. And yes, we already have Bitty Baby...her godmother got her started on that for her first birthday.

If your DD is old enough, why not fork over the catalog and let her pick?

We got my daughter Josephina last year for Christmas. She has my oldest daughter's Kirsten doll and plays with that one much more than her own. Again...I think it's the clothes. Kirsten's clothes are much cuter than Josephina's!

For Christmas this year we ordered Emily for our 8 year old daughter and Josephina for our 3 year old. They both are gorgeous dolls!

We are getting Sophia and my niece the bitty twins. Each gets one. Sophia wants Josephina but I told her she has to wait until she is 8 like the catalog says....

As for clothes, can't you get whatever cute clothes you like for each doll not just the ones that supposedly go with that doll? Am I missing something?

I was thinking more about it and I think I might wait a couple more years until I get her the AG doll. I saw her Cinderella Barbie is naked on on the kitchen counter...
lol
After talking with my Mom, she said to wait until Laney can take care of it and enjoy dressing her up.

If your DD is typical Guatemalan I would get the Josephina doll. I bought the Kaya doll for my Pacific Islander DD. It is perfect for her as her skin tone is like solid dark chocolate. There used to be an American doll knock off at Target called Vanessa that was even more suitbel then the Josephina doll but I do not think they cary it any more. Not sure how old your DD is but my girls got their dolls at about 8 yrs old. Anna

My four yr olds each have bitty baby...
You don't have to get a named American Girl IE. Josephine or Kaya (both are adorable dolls)... you can have on custom made to match the eye color hair color and hair style of your chld.... My three oldest daughters each had one like that and my "middle girls" have one for when they get home.... I chose outfits and accessories that match their personality and intrests... it was so much fun! Target sells really cute things for thier store brand doll... we have tons of furniture and clothing from there... I think it's kind of Mommy's favorite thing at our house...hehehe

Choosing between the two is difficult as I like them both, but I would go with Josephina.

Last Christmas we gave Molly to our 6 year old who was wishing like crazy that Santa would bring her to our house. The joy on Christmas morning was a sight to behold.

She has been madly in love with Molly ever since and is rarely without her - except at school. Even though she is only 6 she has proven that it doesn't really matter the age if they are ready for it. Yes, Molly's hair is quite the sight, but I always say it is a sign of a well loved doll. I guess I really have to give my dh the credit as he is the one that pushed for it. (I too was hesitant due to age)

This year, she is hoping for Emily and has already sent 3 letters to Santa beginning mid-summer. Bless our postman for picking them up. Needless to say there will be an Emily under the tree.

These are wonderful dolls and hold up well. Also, if you ever get a chance to visit an American Girl Place it is well worth it. The historical area is very educational and there is so much for the girls to do. Maya asked to go there in lieu of a birthday party, and it was a day to remember.

Sorry for the long post, but you won't regret the purchase whether it is Josephina or Kaya.

My daughter Kaya has the Kaya doll! Someone gave it to her for our shower! It's so pretty, but at only 17 months old we don't have it out of the box yet! She also received the bitty baby for a shower gift and it's her very favorite baby. She carries it all over, around, under, and everywhere. I love the Kaya doll, but know she's just not old enough yet to appreciate it! I can't wait until she is old enough to go to the American girl place!

We just gave our seven year old daughter, Delaney, a Josafina doll for her birthday and she LOVES her! There are several sets of clothes and accessories that you can buy for her if you check out the website and we also bought clothing that was for some of the other dolls, too. So far the doll is very sturdy and the clothes, shoes etc. are very well made as well. One of the things our daughter likes so much about Josefina is that she has hair and eyes like hers. We also found a doll trunk that holds the doll and has a place to hang her doll clothes in plus it has two drawers for shoes and accessories. That way everything she needs is in one spot. Hope this was helpful!

American GIrl is a great company! I ordered the twins last year for my older dd for christmas - gave one to her and saved the other for my younger dd. Last year they only offered light skin with dark hair. THis year they now offer medium skin with dark hair so I called to see if I could exchange the one that is unopened. THey said they have a 100% satisfaction policy so I could just dress the used one in her original clothes, send them both back and they will send me the ones I want! I would just pay the price difference from last year to this year! I thought that was great customer service!!! THey are packed and going to the post office today!

Good luck deciding!

Red face

We just got the "Just Like Me" doll for my daughter. You can pick the hair, eye, and skin color. There are also lots of accessories - glasses, earring option, etc.
