My family and I went to Destin last May and had a BLAST. We want to go back in Sept 2009 and yes we know it's hurricane season. We stayed at Holiday Surf and Raquet Club last time and this time we would like something different. Definitely an ocean front condo with a nice pool and a playground would be great! (A girl can dream right?!) Does anyone have any recommendations?

We stay every year at Silver Dunes... have been going for 8 years now and it is great! No playground, but a HUGE grassy area where the kids can stage baseball games, etc. All the condos are on the beach in a U shape.

We just moved about about 30 minutes east of Destin. I love shopping there!! I don't have a specific recommendation but I always use trip advisor for recommendations. If you have never used it, you put the city name and then they have a hotel and a separate condo link where people rate the hotel/condo/etc. You can see the date the people went to the hotel and people usually do a great job of giving lots of details. I use it every time I am heading to a city I have never been before and the recommendations are spot on. Also you could try For rent by owners website. They have some great condos. Good luck!

Second the rec. on Silver Dunes. Our entire family went to Destin last summer and stayed there. Great condos, nice pool, on the ocean, and the big grassy area is outstanding for the kids with ballgames, etc. going on every night. Right near the big water park and anything else you could possibly want. Vicki the Grammy

Look into Vacation Rentals by Owner (vrbo.com). We went to Destin in September and got a good deal there.

You may want to rethink the hurricane thing. I figured no big deal and guess what? We ended up there during Gustav. Fortunately, it hit further west, but it was still a miserable couple of days and we literally decided the night before whether we were going to go or not.

We did still have fun, but the water was pretty much off-limits other than up to your knees the entire week.

We have stayed at the Destin West resort and loved it. They have both ocean side and bay side. We stayed on the Bay side because it had an great lazy river and my son is in love with Lazy rivers but we went back and forth between the two condo's (they are across the street from each other). The ocean side did have a water playground and I believe a free standing play ground also. It not on the main strip in Destin but we liked that. The condo we rented was wonderful and very very clean. It was a beautiful setting at night on our side!

We Love the Hilton San Destin...It is an Awesome place to stay...we went a couple of summers ago and my Brother got married there, it's right on the beach...can't wait to go back!!
