Before I started my blog, I read lots of warnings to prepare yourself for negative comments. Weeeeelllllll, I got my first one yesterday. It was from a surprising source - well, I was surprised, but not totally - it was a bit in character for the person, let's call her Karen.

Here's the twist -

The comment came in an email "accidentally" sent to me. It said things like, "oh gag me, I just read parts of my cousin's blog and she did this big long blather about....."

I confronted Karen in a reply and she responded that a disgruntled employee who knew her fairly well hacked into her email and sent out some vandal emails.

What do you think, girls? Do we believe her or is it just a creative lie?

I'm way over being hurt (mostly) and I'm laughing. I'm leaning toward thinking she had a witchy moment and accidentally hit send.

Sounds like she was embarrased to get busted. What are the chances someone hacked into her email? It still amazes me how people are so careless when sending emails.

I agree...she got busted!! I wouldn't do anything about it...just ignore it. I guess there is some incredibly unlikely chance that her story is true. You don't have to forget about it though...I wouldn't!

if you were just as catty as she, you could post her email on your blog with an explanation of how awful it is that her email was hacked and how terrible it is that someone would do that to her.

but of course you're not that kind of cousin...

Nope. She is lying. It sounds like she was writing it to someone else and then since she was thinking about you, sent it to you by accident. She is busted. I'm sorry this happened to you. I would definitely let her know that you don't believe her ridiculous story.

Maybe your cousin needs to know about the new "email goggles" being offered. In order to ensure that folks are not emailing inappropriately while intoxicated, it requires the user to solve a few mathmatical equations. If you cannot solve the problems, the email is not sent and remains in your "draft" box until the next day.

Hi Janet!
Okay, so, someone hacked into her email and sent out these "vandal" emails....is she saying someone made the emails up and mailed them out? or is she saying someone sent out emails that she wrote but, never meant to have sent out? In other words, is she claiming she did not write the emails in the first place or what? Do you know who the emails were sent to other than you? Were there any addresses on them? I think I'd put it on my blog just to let other family members know what a nasty low down dog she is being! I swear! Sometimes people are so jealous! Why can't she just be happy for you and your baby? Jeeeeeez! Family! huh?

Is there a chance she is jealous of you? This sounds like something a jealous person would do. I mean if she was so annoyed why would she sit there and read your blog like that? I would definitely say she made up that story.

Hi Jeanne !! Here's the direct quote........

"I am mortified that you got caught in a problem we had here at the office. I’ve just been able to access my e-mail today to see what damage was caused: a disgruntled employee was dismissed Friday, and then proceeded to “vandalize” the e-mail accounts of two of us in the office with e-mails similar to what you received. If anything has been posted on your blog, please remove it – another friend had to do this already.

The most unfortunate part of this is that this person had been very friendly to the two us: we had carpooled with this person a couple of times, and we depended on this person for support when we were out of the office. So, this person knew a bit about our personal lives, and, unfortunately, knew the passwords to our e-mail accounts, and was able to use the web-access version of Outlook to get into our accounts over the weekend. Some intervention has been done with this person, who is also blaming the two of us for the employment termination, hence the e-mail vandalism, among other things. It’s amazing how much havoc can come from one vindictive person. In the meantime, we are having to make contact with all of our board members, etc. etc."

I love the "Goggles" link! I could use some of those myself sometimes.

I am judiciously waiting until the dust settles before I hit "send" to anything on this one though.
