RX: ELidel

My 3 yo DD was just put on Elidel for white patches on her cheeks that won't go away. We've tried pretty much everything. The latest was washing her cheeks with Selsen Blue and then putting lotrimin on them twice a day (per dr). He wasn't pleased with the fact they still aren't clearing up and so we've moved onto an RX. Has anyone had a child on this? Did it help? Thanks!

I have used elidel for a rash on my face, it worked wonders. I don't know how it works on kids though.

I've used Elidel on my son for eczema but its a pretty serious drug. I'm wondering does your daughter have pityriasis alba? If she does there's not much you can do about it. My 4yr old gets it every summer (she's Asian, it shows up more in darker skinned children) when she tans. I'm surprised your doctor is so concerned about it. Here's some info on it if that's what it is.

My oldest daughter has had severe eczema since she was an infant. We started on Elidel about age 4. It worked really well. We haven't used it as much lately because she seems to be outgrowing her eczema.

We use this for DS's face only when his eczema acts up...works wonders.

Hi...

Annie has these patches on her face as well. We have been using selson blue for some time and there has been some mininal improvement but the patches are still there. Our pediatrician has said he doesn't want to put her on the prescription cream because it is a very strong drug. We are going back to him on Tuesday. I am curious what he will decide to do.

Elidel is pretty serious. Make sure you use it sparingly and as little as possible. It did have a black box warning label on it.

carolyn, just wanted to pipe up and ask if you've seen a pediatric dermatologist and not just your primary care? i would hate to see you using this med as a trial because they don't know what the condition is...
