Insurance problems - anyone had issues adding your child?

So, I have Regence Blue Shield and tried to add my DD but they just sent me a letter saying that the Visa isnt enough to prove the "date of placement"....the letter says they need a copy of a court order showing that she was placed with us.

So here is the problem: the 'fine print' on the application to add her says that we needed to do it within 60 days of the date of placement. The ONLY court document we have is from Guatemala and it's the date that we got out of PGN which was wayyy more than 60 days before she came home -so if we use that date then I'm 'too late' to add her to the policy.

WHAT do I do? has anyone run into this problem??

We gave the ins. co. the protocolo or adoption decree and her birth certificate. I'm not sure what they would do in your situation but it is worth a try!

We gave our insurance agency the adoption decree as well. BUT.... we had changed her name, and told our doctors office our daughter was going by ...., but we hadn't legally changed her name yet.

They mistakenly filed all of our visits under her new name (that wasn't "legally" changed yet), so we had to battle insurance for 7 months to pay for vaccinations, shots, etc. eye yey yey...

It took us two months to get Madeline added. I had to keep faxing paperwork over. I believe I sent them the PGN doc, Bmoms Signature document, Guat BC, and her Visa.

I've heard that ins companies try and pull crap, but they must add them.

Good luck! BTW, it was way past 60 days when I got her added. This was mostly due to the ditzy girl handling the paperwork.

Hi

I had to add all three of my girls to Regence BCBS of Oregon and have some familiarity with their requirements. Give them copies of Spanish and English PGN decrees and your embassy date information. Include a letter explaining the Guatemalan adoption process that includes timelines and requirements. I would also suggest you involve your employer's HR department. They can make a couple of phone calls and likely make it happen faster as well. Please let me know if you have any questions.

YES!!!!!!!!!!

Remember that DD was approved in PGN around mid-Oct. of last year? Well she didn't have pink until the 6th of December and wasn't home until 18th of December....

My work was giving us a terrible hassle about the PGN decree and the fact that we were no longer inside of the 60 days. I had to explain to them that even though she was "ours" we COULDN"T go and get her until we had the BC, the passport and then pink....I had to explain it to them over and over!!!! DUH!

The whole thing sent them into "orbit"....They couldn't get over the fact that the adoption process from Guatemala didn't fit into their standard "mold". DD, DH and I sat there for 45 min. to an hour as they poured over our ENTIRE set of paperwork from POA to Pink. I was SO mad by the end and told them I was uncomfortable with them having "access" to my DD's personal infomation (her social report, how she became abandoned, etc.) They could tell I was getting mad!!!

In the end they decided to use the date the Visa was issued because even though she was "mine" prior to that, we could not have brought her home before then.

I hope you have a better time than us!!!
Good luck!!

I went through many problems with this company. I ended up giving only the stamp on the passport that showed when we came into the country with him and my case worker at my agency wrote a letter stating that even though the adoption was complete we did not get to bring him home until much latter. I then took my paperwork to my agent who wrote my insurance policy and had him to call and take care of this himself, I found out that the insurance guy had a special number to call to take care of things that consumers do not have. I would not leave his office until it was taken care of because I have spend several hours on the phone with the company myself and had gotten no where. You will need to get the insurance agent involed or if the insurance is through work then maybe a human services person at your workplace.

Thanks everyone ~

Unfortunately this is an "individual plan" that we enrolled in straight from Regence. So no HR/agent support is available.

Has anyone added a child after the US re-adoption? I'm wondering if the re-adoption court paperwork would be dated with the PGN or Visa date or if it has a date of it's own and I could use that...?
I'm still going to battle this to try to get her on now but as a 'worst case' thing maybe we could use the readopt date.

UGH. I thought the nightmare with paperwork was over.
