Baptism gift ideas--

Vivian is being baptized on Sunday and many people are asking what they can get her that might be traditional Guatemala gifts or that will symbolize her baptism...any suggestions?
Thank you,
Kristie

If they are Catholic, my DD received a "first rosary." It's really cute, and I think it was one of the best gifts she got. It's made of big wooden beads.

My favorites that Kate recieved were rosary, Precious Moments cross (it stands, doesn't hang), gold cross necklace, and this little pink Bible with her name engraved on it.
We also received a St. Christopher medal and an engraved cross (that hangs over is bed) those things stood out from the ususal cash gift.

BTW Vivian is a BEAUTIFUL name.

Maybe not a meaningful gift per se, but the most used baptism gift we received was CD's with kid's christian music. One had 3 CD's with bible songs, sunday school songs, and worship songs. My girls have learned so many Bible stories from the songs and love them.

For Ana's baptism she received a stuffed lamb that when she squeezes its hands plays 'Jesus loves me'. She absolutely loves it and now J can't get enough of it either.

I used to shop here allllll the time when I lived in St Louis. The website has some nice ideas.

Catholic Gifts for Baby, Baptism & Christening, Christening Gowns, Statuary, Godchild and Godparent Gifts, Rosaries, Frames, Crosses, Jewelry, Keepsakes, & More!

For DD's baptism we only got a few gifts. Mostly cash, some day-to-day clothes, and a precious moments standing cross, a wall cross with a verse on it, a statue of an angel with a baby and a baptismal font, and a prayer card with her name's meaning on it.

Other nice ideas: some bible related toys like the fisher price noah's ark set or nativity set. A little "my first bible" boardbook, the wooden bead rosary mentioned already (DD has one, too, the one pic'd on the link above), or any kind of keepsake jewelry/charm that has some use when she's older.

For DD's baptism I also used one of my grandmother's old linen handkerchiefs and folded it into a bonnet (easy instructions if you google it, just 2 folds, 1 line of stitching, thread some ribbon through and tie it up. If she wants, and if she gets married, she can unfold it and use it as a handkerchief at her wedding. Maybe someone can give that to you in advance if they're so inclined. I think it's an Irish tradition, but it's too lovely to confine to one culture.

DD's Godmother is from Guatemala and she gave her a gold medal with Mary on it. She said that in Guatemala they do not give crosses to babies, because they are too young to "carry a cross". Her Godmother wanted to buy her the baptismal dress, but I had the one that I was baptized in and so we used that one.

We got a baptism picture frame that is nice and a silver Tiffany spoon and cash that we used to start her college savings account.

some ideas...

We have a tradition in our family that started with my husband. There is a wonderful picture of Jesus surrounded by little children and He is gently touching the face of one of the kids. My husband had this in his room when he was little now the boys and girls do too and I have given one to each of my god children.

There is also a Willow tree angel figure that is called Guardian Angel where the angel is holding the hands of a small child helping him walk. The symbolism is beautiful and I have purchased one for the director of our orphanage as a gift when we go to pick up our girls.

Have a wonderful baptism day! Renee
