age your child when they climbed out of crib/ or you switched them to bed?

my first 2 littles climbed out at about age 2...and we switched them to a toddler bed right away. i think eli might have been about 20 months(when i caught eli climbing out....i learned he was also climbing back in after he got what he wanted, so really, who knows when he "actually" started.) . my new problem is baby a. he is 11 months old, and nearly made it out of his crib this afternoon....thank God i was right next to him....or he would have most likely fallen on his head. (just to ease your mind, he is sleeping next to me in the pack and play for a while to ease MY mind until i figure out a plan. )

so....i want to know how many other people had early climbers? the problem is baby a is VERY tall. he wears a 24 months/2T....so climbing out of the crib is easy for him. it is as low as it could go. i'd love to hear what you did for your early climbers. were you able to keep them in their cribs somehow, did you transition them earlier than you would have liked?what worked for you...what didn't? if you have a kid who stayed in longer, do you have a secret? do you think there is something you did that helped them stay in longer without jumping out?

My daughter started a little after she turned two. Have you heard of the crib tent? They have them at Babies R Us. If you are not ready to transition to a toddler bed this may be a solution. Good luck!

We had two climbers at once. Connor was about 18 mths when he did it and then a few nights later Callie did it too. She was only 12 mths. We bought crib tents for both of them. They were wonderful!

We transitioned DS to a toddler bed at 18 months and DS at 16 months. Both did very well with the transitions.

My kid brother was climbing out before he could walk, and he walked at 9 months. He would fall out on his head pretty much every time, so my mom took the crib down and put his mattress on the floor. He wouldn't stay on the mattress, and ended up sleeping with some sibling or other until he was nearly 4.

My eldest climbed out by about 18 months old, but she scared herself enough that she didn't try it again. My youngest at 21 months has not climbed out. Both are still in their cribs. They climb in (with the side lowered) but not out.

ds climbed out at age 21 months and we transitioned him to a toddler bed. It was hard to keep him in his room (especially at naptime) so we use a gate on his bedroom door.

About 16mths, we transitioned him to a mattress on the floor, and now at 22mths he sleeps on a box spring and mattress. He'll get a twin bed for his 2nd birthday.

CRIB TENT BROOK. Both my kids used it. Both my kids loved/loves it. Alec started it at 1.5 and so did Mikayla. Up the crib tent went! Alec transitioned out of the crib tent/crib and into a twin bed at 3.5, the summer Mikayla was born. Mikayla will be in it as long as I can keep her there! ROFL.

Our son was about 15 months when he started climbing out (he's very tall....and has NO fear). It was good timing, because we needed the crib for little sister. However, he's never been good at staying in his bed all night! Little sister is now 2...she's pretty short, still can't climb out, and my husband says that she will be staying in her crib as long as possible!!!

My daughter wasn't a climber. She was 3 when we moved her to a twin bed out of the crib. So, I'm not much help. Sounds like that "crib tent" might be your answer! I've never heard of it. It's amazing what you learn on this forum!
