Last year DD got 1 out of 2 flu shots, and ended up with the flu anyway. (She never got the 2nd one because she was sick for a few months with a variety of ailments, and not healty enough for the 2nd one) This year I am uncertain if I should have her get it or not.

DD does go to daycare.

No. My kids are not in day care. But I don't believe I'd do the shot if they were, either, unless I had no choice.

I'm a new mom & my DD is going into day care in November so I got her the 1st of the flu shots this week and I got one too....

I've never gotten one before but I don't want to be sick so I figured it was worth a try.

By the way, I have felt bad for about 36 hours after my shot so I am going to bed early (at least for me) tonight to try to sleep off the tired, achy feeling.

My poor DD had 4 shots on the same day plus a TB test and she's hanging in there better than me with my one.

No, my children will not get the flu shot.

My son has to have it because he has chronic lung disease, but yes my dd will get it too. She got the flu shot last year too, but she got the flu before the shot had time to protect her.

The flu shot itself cannot give you the flu as the shot does not contain live virus. However due to the fact that the flu "bug" changes each year it may not protect you 100% from all the different flu "bugs". Also the flumist does contain live virus but they do NOTrecommend that for children at high risk, like my son.

Last year I was uncertain so I didn't have Maria get the flu shot. She ended up with the flu and was soooooo sick for about a week. She couldn't do anything other than lay on the couch. It was a horrible horrible experience for me...I can't imagine how helpless she felt. This year there is no question in my mind...both of my girls are getting the shot.

Both DC, DH and myself got them. My DC both had some lung problems early on. No one had any reaction to the shot but me--I was kind of dragging for a day or 2.

Not here. Everyone in my family and even my husband has gotten the flu after taking the shot. I dont even want to try it!!!!! Too risky.

Yes, my DH is a Sheriff's Deputy and gets them every year free at work since he is in the jail most of the day. I am doing my student teaching and have already picked up WAY too much stuff from the kids this fall so yes, I actually go TOMORROW to get mine. Yes, both of my kids will be getting it as well. Mikayla had it last year and did not get the flu and neither did Alec, who also had it. HOWEVER, last years vaccine was said to NOT be a good match. This year they feel it is a good match. So yes, my entire family is getting them this year. This will be the first year I actually get one. I am also starting my Hep. series tomorrow. YUCK... I hate shots. I need a hug. ROFL

Wow...how strange. I didn't think you could get the flu from the shot, just typical side effect that come with vaccines? DH has been getting them for 8 years and never has gotten sick. I sure hope I don't since we have our big Guate gathering this weekend for Boo at the Zoo!

I got the shot and so did my son. We go back next week for the second one. I asked my doctor and he said you cannot get flu from the shot. You can have the flu after getting the shot because either you already had it when you got the vaccination or you got a different strain of the virus. But if you have had the shot it will cut your "sick days" in half.

For the past two years my doctor has recommended my entire family get the flu shot because DD was so underweight and was considered high risk. Well I have NEVER had the flu in 26 years and now both times I had the shot I caught the flu!! Don't know if it's conincidence or not but this year I'm NOT getting it!!

The girls got the first half last Saturday. I'm getting mine today.

With the ear junk and respiratory issues Thomas has had I will get him one. He is scheduled the 2nd week of November for it.
