WAYOT: anyone do a "princess wand craft" at a b-day?

I am looking for ideas (I have NO imagination at all) to have a craft at Maya's party for the girls to make a princess wand. I found one on BE, but I thought I might be able to do better. Do you think I can buy everything at a Michael's or JoAnne's? what can I use for the stick so no-one is poking eyes out ? I know I can use ribbon and I have seen foam stars but ideas would be appreciated. Maya is only turning 2 but the ages of the girls are 3 1/2-9 (there are 2-10y/o and 1-11 y/o but they would rather paint the wodden cars with the boys as they have told me in the past. We bought the wooden cars for Logan's party in case it rained but we had a beautiful day and didn't use them. We painted the cars for my second son's 5th b-day right after we moved into our new home and amazingly enough no paint anywhere....just jinxed myself big time. I plan to cover under the dinning room table and on top to protect all.

Ok, those with an imagination please help.

If you're worried about the eye poking out thing, why not make princess crowns or hats.

Needed:
PLain crowns, or Plain pink (or purple) party hats
Curling ribbon if using the party hats
stinky backed "gemstones"
glue (if you couldn't find the sticky backed kind)

Directions:
Get to decorating
If using the party hat cut just a very small setion of the tip off the hat tie curling ribbon in not and lace through from the bottom of the hat.

These were a very big hit when I did this activity with my preschool class.

Along the lines of the crown but also can do with wands would be the foam stickers. For dd's 3rd birthday (with her 5 yo and 1 yo cousins) they decorated foam visors with the foam stickers and letters. We did it as the end of a treasure/scavenger hunt that was fairly complicated: we hid the supplies in a basket and took a photo of the basket sitting in an easily recognized spot in the yard. Then we printed the pic as an 8x10 and glued it to lightweight cardboard (cereal box) and cut it up as a puzzle with 5-6 pieces. We hid those around the yard. The kids looked for puzzle pieces, assembled it as a group, then identified that there was a big basket in the front yard by the flower garden--we trooped off to get THAT and then they did the craft. Whew!

As for the wands, you could cut cardboard stars (maybe with slightly rounded tips) and then cover them in aluminum foil. For the wand itself you could use unsharpened pencils and then glue that between 2 cardboard stars, perhaps?

Or on a completely different idea you could do cutout star-shaped cookies and let them help decorate them and then use a sucker stick and make cookie wands as a treat.

The "poking the eye out problem" I can't solve, but we used disposable chopsticks for fairy wands, You can dip them in glitter paint beforehand to "prep" them, and then let the girls add ribbons, jewels, stars, etc.
