Ok...you guys are just tooo good...this week it going to be harder and worth up to 2500 points!! It is a 2 parter...The first part is worth 2000 and the second part is worth 500.

Ok get ur thinking caps on...this is from a very popular movie in the late 80s.

Part 1: (worth 2000 points) Your partner comes home to find you strapped to the bathroom with a bomb on you. The only way to get loose before the bomb goes off is you need EXACTLY (not a drop more or drop less) 4 gallons of water to loosen the straps. They left you a 3 gallon bucket as well as a 5 gallon bucket. By using these 2 buckets..how do you get EXACTLY 4 gallons of water to save your partner before the bomb goes off??

Part 2: (worth 500 points) Name the movie!!!!

I remember the movie, but too early for me to think how it worked.
Is there a third container you pour the 4 gallons into? Because then you could fill 5 gallon full, pour into 3 gallon. Remainder is two gallons. Pour into third receptacle and do that again.

Ok, not sure I need the points, because I don't know what to do with them, but the contests are fun!

Fill the 5 gallon jug and pour it into the 3 gallon jug, leaving 2 gallons in the 5. Dump out the 3 gallon jug and fill it with these 2 gallons. Refill the 5 and pour it into the 3 which only has space for 1 gallon, leaving the 5 gallon with 4 gallons.

Fill each jug to the halfway mark. Half of 5 is 2.50 and half of 3 is 1.50. 2.50 and 1.50 =4 gallons. As far as the movie, I have no clue.

Well, I'm sure I didn't see the movie because it doesn't sound familiar at all, so I can't answer that part of the question.

Let's see...... Fill the 3-gallon jug. Then pour those 3 gallons into the 5 -gal jug. Then, fill the 3-gal jug again, and pour it into the 5-gallon jug till the 5-gal one is full. You will now have just one gallon of water in the 3-gallon jug.

Now, empty the 5-gal jug into the sink, toilet, or bathtub (wherever your partner isn't strapped - LOL).

Now, you pour the one gallon of water from the 3-gallon jug into the 5-gal jug to save it. Then, fill the 3-gal jug once more. You now have one gallon of water in the 5-gal jug, and a full 3-gal jug. Pour out the 3-gal jug into the five-gal one.

Now you have exactly four gallons of water in a five-gallon jug.

Ok, I have to admit I had to read through other answers to try to figure this one out. After trying to figure the logical way I have to agree with Amy...does this count?



Filling the 5 gallon jug pouring it into the 3 gallon jug leaving 2 gallons in the 5. Then dumping out the 3 gallong jug and filling it with these 2 gallons. Refill the 5 gallon jug and put into the 3 that only has space for one more gallon, leaving the 5 gallon jug with 4 gallons. Huh, that was a hard one, not sure if it is right still but sounds logical to me!!!

This is a good one! I'd llike to do the second part first - It was Die Hard with a Vengeance, the one with Samuel Jackson (loved that movie!!)

Now, how to get to 3 gallons:

1 - Fill the 5 Gallon jug and pour into the 3 gallon jug - leaving 2 gallons in the 5 Gallon jug
2 - Empty the 3 gallon jug and Pour the 3 gallons (from the 5 gallon jug) into the 3 gallon jug
3 - refill the 5 gallon jug
4 - Pouring from the 5 gallon jug into the 3 gallon jug 1 gallon (that's all that will fit as you are adding to the 2 gallons that are already there) - leaving 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug
