Talk about my heart breaking into pieces!!!! I had to write out a check for my insurance and put it in the mail box before the mail man came. Well Giuseppa was at the door and I told her to stay where she was (and she ALWAYS listens to me and stays) Well today like any other day I went to the mailbox to drop off the letter (I can see my whole front of the house from the mailbox) came back inside and closed the door. I figured Giuseppa was watching television. Well I went straight to the family room and no Giuseppa. I started to call her name and went room to room....NO GIUSEPPA!!! I knew she did not go upstairs because I had it gated and not in the garage..cause it was locked. I freaked!!! I ran outside started to scream her name and no answer...OMG...panic hits me like a ton of bricks....I started to cry and scream..I ran back inside and left the front door open just in case and continued to recheck the inside to make sure she was not hiding in any corner or closet or cabinet anything...NO GIUSEPPA...I almost fainted from fear...my body suddenly started to shake uncontrolably and I was nearly ready to hit the floor. Suddenly I saw the door close and here was this sweet little angel with an innocent look. I just grabbed and hugged her and started to cry uncontralable and would not let her go. She so sweetly is telling me "Don't cry Mommy, don't cry" Than as she was reading my mind she told me.."Mommy I hide.." and I asked her where....Ready for this...she was hiding behind the door on the outside side of it. (our doors swing out cause of hurricanes) So since the door was opened she went to hide behind it. Once I was calmed down I proceed to give her a little lecture (I really do not think she understood me) that she can not SCARE mommy ever again. I ended up being sick with a migraine for most of the day. AHHHHHH the joys of motherhood.

My older son taught my younger two to play hide and seek pretty young. My younger son can't keep quiet, but my daughter is really good. My Mom was babysitting them one day and Lauren decided to play hide and seek without telling my Mom she was playing. After searching the house, my Mom was literally on her way to call the police when she saw Lauren's feet under the curtains. I swear it took 10 years off my Mom's life!

We now have very firm rules about responding when an adult calls their name. But they are old enough to understand.

Thank God she was alright but man was that scary! My son hid in the lower kitchen cabinet, folding himself into the space and was quiet as a mouse. While I didn't see him at first and looked around, calling his name, I suddenly saw the cabinet door open just a little. Scared me so much to think how easily they could trap themselves in a place that we would not even think to check.

Oh my goodness, I know the feeling! That has happened a few times with a few of my children. That is so scary. I remember not being able to breath, think etc.-total breakdown etc. Thank goodness she is ok.

OMGOODNESS!! Poor Mommy-happy to hear that everyone is ok. My DD did the same to me in the COstco parking lot. She ALWAYS stays by my side and I opened the door and had to reach in a get something and when I turned around she was gone. I started SCREAMING her name and running around the car and then she peeked her head around and said I hide Mommy. I grabbed her and held on to her for dear life.

Glad it was a scary but happy ending!!

When we first moved to our house my son was 1 and he hid in he cabinet and wouldn't answer me and I just went potty!! I freaked out and almost called the police before I heard him laughing!! Shhesshhh moms must have more than 9 lives!!

i know how scary that is. When Zoe was just about your daughter's age, she was playing in the backyard and I ran into the house to do a quick thing on the computer. When I went back out, about 3 minutes later, she was not outside. I ran all through the house calling her name. My heart felt like it literally stopped. Finally I started running down the street (new neighborhood) calling her name, stopping cars along the street. Then I saw a police car... she had walked down the street - about two houses down on a cross street - and a man doing his daily walk knocked on someone's door and they called the police.

I think that was (and still is) my "worst mommy moment." We did learn how quickly the police respond in our new neighborhood. We also learned to put a padlock on the back gate so she couldn't get out. Up until then we didn't realize she had figured out how to work the gate latch.

LOL try a hundred...OMGosh I thought I had died....I told DH and he laughed...I got soooo mad...and I told him that was not funny at all...Wait till she does something like that too him and lets see if its funny...grrrrrrrrr

Anabel hasn't done this (yet) but I'll tell you I'm 39 and my mother STILL talks about the time I was around 2 and she lost me in the playground. I was hiding in one of those rabbit hole things and she was running around looking for me for about 15 minutes TOTALLY freaked out. Now that I'm a mom, I can say how sorry I am to have put her through it!
