Question OT: Gas situ in Charlotte, NC area?

DS and I are flying down to Charlotte, NC for the long Columbus Day weekend - we will be driving across the state to Flat Rock to visit Grandpa and Tia (my stepmother) . How bad is the gas situation down there - will I have to cross the border to SC to get gas? Just trying to anticipate if I'll be waiting in a long line . Thanks - Barbara

My friend lives outside of Charlotte and she even told me that she usually needs to drive about 30-40 minutes away to find gas...and also they canceled some schools to try to conserve gas.

Have fun!! I loved it there when I visited.

Uggh - yes, I've been following the news and it's not pretty. I guess I was hoping someone on the ground, so to speak, could tell me it was fine. Perhaps a week from now it will be more settled, please? I guess I'll just have to make sure I fill up when I pass an open con gas station! Thanks everyone, I appreciate it.

I can't wait to get to the Blue Ridge Mountains - I just love it! And the southern manners!

Well Flat rock is very close to us and we live in Lancaster, SC. Charlotte is pretty bad my husband works in Charlotte and he says that its about at 20% , you can find gas here in Lancaster but you have to really search. But its better then Charlotte.

I have family in the Inman/Boiling Springs/Spartanburg South Carolina are. They don't have any either most days. About an hour or a little over outside of CLT.

My best friend works in Charlotte and lives right over the border in SC. She said they are closing schools and she's had to drive even further than where she lives into SC to get gas. She told me yesterday it would be another 2-3 weeks before they had "enough" gas.

Are you renting a car? Call the rental car company and ask them if the car will be full of gas when you get it. Then you have plenty of time to look for stations. My parents live in SC about an hour south of Charlotte. Most stations there are limiting gas to 10 gallons and it is hard but not impossible to get. They have been trying not to get under 1/2 a tank before filling up. Good luck!

Hi, We live in Charlotte, and it's been bad, but I feel like it's getting better. I would call the car rental place and ask about their gas situation, they probably know the stations surrounding the airport that have gas so I would not stress to much over it. Enjoy your visit to the Carolinas, the weather here lately has been prefect!

You can google a site on line that have a list of gas stations that do have gas. My hubby has to keep up with all that.

I live right across the NC/SC border (SC side) and while it has been hard to find gas, it seems to be getting better. Up until the first of this week there were lines at the stations that happen to get gas. I noticed today that there are no lines at the 6 stations I pass on my way to work. No bags on the pumps and the price on the signs is $3.79 - $3.84. Coming from Charlotte you would get on I-77 South and get off at exit 82C and turn right. There are 3 gas stations there together or you can drive about .5 mile and there is Shell station and another .5 mile and there is a BP. I hope this helps.

We live in Charlotte. It has been pretty bad, but I, too, feel like it is turning around. As I drive, I notice that about every other station has gas. This is a much better improvement to a week ago. The Asheville/Flat Rock area was just as bad, but I learned today that they are much much better and further along to back to normal than the Charlotte area.

Come, enjoy your time...

Hardly any gas there. It is very hard to find a gas station that has gas, and when you do, you will wait in line for hours. Fill up before you go.
