Question Question about baby shower

My sister in laws are planning a baby shower for us. My question is October 19th too early to have a baby shower? We have been OUT of PGN since 8/18 and are now waiting for BC from RENAP since 9/2. Our request was submitted to Coban on 9/2 and is now at the RENAP office in GC since 9/19. So, I am hoping and praying that Kate is home sometime in November. What if she is not? Is October 19th not far away enough? I am just afraid we will have all this stuff waiting for her and she will outgrow it while we wait another couple months for BC. I can't even bear that thought! What should I tell them?

Personally, I would let them throw you the shower! Most people will give you a gift receipt and you can always exchange it for something else! We we given a shower before Jessica was even out of PGN. Most people gave us toys for her- we got very few clothes because we really didn't know how big she would be. This is one of those times you can just enjoy - don't worry about the "what if's". Have fun !!!! Can't wait to hear about it!

That's just my opinion!

I say have the shower! My friends gave me one back in August when we thought Jake would be home in Sept. Well, he'll be home the end of October so there is just no telling but it will give you something to look forward to while you're waiting for stinkin' renap. On my invitation my friend put on the size of clothes we thought he'd be in. I'm not sure what size Katelyn is wearing now but I'd guess a size up than you think, just to be safe. So maybe 24m or 2T? I'm not sure if you really want clothing but if it doesn't matter to you, just request no clothing since you are not sure about the homecoming timeframe. There are plenty of cute toys, books, care items, etc. you could get. However, I do understand if you would want to wait until you have the BC. If you do that, your friends could still have a couple of weeks to throw you a shower since you'd have to wait for passport, dna, etc. anyway. Just do whatever you think but if it were me I'd just have the shower! Mine really made it feel like Jake would be home soon.

I would say have the shower. Mine ended up being five months before I brought him home. On the invitations, they said to bring gift receipts. Zach ended up being so small that he still fit in all the clothes that I got. Have fun! It is soooo exciting!!

I know I'm in the monirity here but I would wait.... who wants to be running back to the stores exchanging things.. I'd rather wait & get the right size..
you need to do whatever you feel is right & if you think it will keep you distracted whikle you wait then go for it & enjoy all the gifts you get

I say go for it!!

It will be a fun thing that you will have to look forward to for a couple of weeks.

That said, you just have to stay flexible...this darn process doesn't get any easier even at the end. Even if you do get clothes that don't fit you can take them back or give them to someone else that needs them.

Whether you decide to wait or to have it sooner, it will be loads of fun and you will be one day closer to bringing Kate home!!

Happy Planning!!

Hi Kim, I just had my baby shower this weekend. It was loads of fun and really lifted my spirits to be with family and friends. I just registered for her clothes the next bigger size and I received ton's of toy's, great books, jogging stroller you name it.

I have been reading your post for such a long time now. As you can see, our timelines are pretty similar. Let's get those BC's. My Attorey said RENAP just told her to check back in a few weeks URGH!!!

If you ever want to talk please PM me. Now go have that baby shower!

Megan

Have the shower and enjoy the moment!! Your husband's guy friends could throw him a Diaper Shower, too.

I am so happy for you and I pray that your baby will be home very soon!

I think it's a tough call. My sister threw me a shower in April, thinking Maddy would be home over the Summer. We all know what heppened to PGN in April! It was really hard having all these things around and NO MADDY! And now, 5 months later and she still isn't home. If I had it to do over again, I would wait.

Whatever you decide, it was amazing to have my friends and family celebrate Maddy's arrival and I'm sure whenever you do have the shower, it will be a great !!

Heart

Enjoy your shower! Just hang onto any receipts for clothes, etc. My oldest bio boy was 9lbs 14 oz when he was born and I had to return most of the stuff I got at my baby shower. Kate is at a fun age for presents-there is a lot of cool toddler toys and books.

The big question for you is -- how will you feel if the shower comes & no good news about timing?

I had friends who wanted to throw shower for me before my DD was home & I just couldn't face it....I thought I would burst into tears in a room full of people with questions about timing I couldn't answer. So instead I had a work shower/coming home party with her there 2 months after we came home. And this weekend I am going to visit extended family & they are throwing me another coming home party.....the parties when they are there is great too.

Either way....enjoy it & the attention & the cute things! I asked for lots of books & it was great to see what people gave (and I now have some lovely inscriptions for her to read when she is older).

I would have the shower! My family gave me a shower when we thought Hallie would be home over the summer - I got a lot of items that I need (other than clothes)!! I agree that it will give you something to look forward to and maybe make the weeks go by a little faster
