Past two nights have been really rough.

I don't know where this child came from. Yesterday Eva scratched one of the little girls at her daycare really bad in the face, and then hit and pulled her hair. My sister put her in her crib for punishment and I don't know how long she was in there for. (My sister and I got in a little fight over the whole situation but there is too much to write here.)
When we went to go get pizza last night she threw a fit getting into the carseat, then when we went to come home she threw an even bigger fit and I could barely strap her in she was fighting me so hard. Then when it was time for bed she would not fall asleep for almost 3 hours which is not like Eva at all. She just wanted me to rock her but everytime she would fall asleep and I would put her down she would start crying again.
Tonight when we got home she has been throwing tantrums for every little thing. The worst tantrums I have ever seen. She is hitting, bitting, scratching herself and throwing herself up against the wall. She just had a ten minute tantrum right now where she was throwing herself so I tried to restrain her and she kicked uncontrollably and cried and screamed the loudest I have ever heard her, I would let her down, then she would crawl back up into my lap and do it again. This went on about 3 times. It is like she is possesed and just completely out of control.
I don't know what to do, it is like I don't even know who this child is.
It feels better to get it all out here. Any words of advice???

That is rough. I'm sorry. I don't know if this will be helpful, but my daughter has been behaving very similarly this week. The sleep issue especially made me suspect an ear infection. I took her today, and she has a terrible infection in one ear.

Is there any possibility that might be your daughter's issue?

I second RGirl's suggestion. If it continues I would make a doctor's appointment. I often find when Gabbie is extra super crabby it is the beginning of an illness.

Also has anything changed at your sisters, like a new child? Sometimes that can do it too. Good luck!

My guess is ear infection. She isn't quite old enough to be able to tell you what hurts. Kids go through phases but it sounds like she really is out of sorts, and all this behavior sounds like ear infection-induced crabbiness. Hang in there.

As I was reading your post the first thing that came to mind was ear infection. Then I scroll down and read the other posts saying the same thing. Just thought I would chime in and say I agree with them also. Take her to the Dr...then at least if it is NOT that you will know better what to do and be comforted knowing she isn't sick and in pain. Good luck!

If it's not an ear infection what about teeth. I know we think (or I did) that teeth coming in hurt but I don't we all know how much they hurt especially molars. Or sometimes kids just have a bad day like we do.

I would definitely talk to your sis about putting her in the crib. I have read time out doesn't work until 2 but if she needs your dd to cool down how about a pack n play instead of a crib - it sounds like she may have some anxiety about her crib at home now.

So sorry it is hard when they are aggressive towards other children because you know she is a sweet good natured child.

Oh I'm sorry! Addisyn was doing this kind of stuff when she first came home for about the first 6 months. At first we just let her have her tantrum but then she started hurting herself. We found that with her disposition consistancy was the best. We found a corner and she had to stand in the corner until she was done with her tantrum. They stopped within two weeks. Not that she still doesn't tantrum, but it's not like a 10Xs a day thing. Now she only does it maybe once a week, which is good considering that shes TWO, and she doesn't try to hurt herself anymore.

It is strange that it came on all of a sudden. Did something change in your household?

Like the others said it sounds like Eva may be coming down with something or has new teeth coming in. When my DS had Hand Foot & Mouth he was way out of control like this. I knew something had to be wrong because he has his share of tantrums but nothing so extreme. But there have been other times where I've brought him to the Drs. thinking he may have an ear infection because he was acting out of control or inconsolable and they found nothing wrong with him. I find that DS just has bad days like this sometimes.

Fluid - not infection

We took DS in last week because he was acting so strange and banging his head on everything. Very uncharateristic for him. Doc did not find an infection, but a small amount of fluid in his ear. He indicated that DS was just trying to get it to drain and it probably would on its own. I guess this happens becuase the eustachian tube is not fully developed. And if you've ever had water in your ear or that feeling you get on a plane (high alt), you can understand how the babes feel. We gave him a very small amount of Benedryl and later the next day I got my sweet DS back, so he must have "popped the cork."
Good decision to take her in; better safe than unsure and miserable.

When Maya has unusual "meltdowns", I always think there's some deep emotional thing happening - is it that she's afraid I'm going to leave her? is it that she's worried about this or that?. And every single time, it's turned out that she has something physical going on, like teeth, or a sliver, or constipation.

I agree with everyone else - try the doctor!

Our DD pitched 2 fits today getting into the car seat. We had been out at the children's museum and then went to the park to ride the train and I think she just did not want to leave..... I think sometimes they just want to try to have some control of the situation.....

Or she could be gearing up to turn 2 in a few months. I know we would go through a week or two of very bad tantrums and then it stops. She does this every so often. She gets T.O and we ignore the screaming fits.
