Well today is Lauren's first birthday. I thought for sure we would have her home by now. I am feeling a little sad today. However, I do want to celebrate her bday. We are planning on making a cake. Any other thoughts on how to make this a memorable occasion for Lauren when she gets older? I want her to know we were thinking about her and love her!

Take pictures here of the cake, of you celebrating her life- call here foster family if you can, buy her a special gift to keep for when she comes home- I bought Bug the Guatamala ABCs book. These are all things I did when Bug was not home for his first birthday.

When Kate turned 1 in May, DH and I got her a cake, took pictures of us and the cake, and also sang "Feliz Cumpleanos." Document the fact that even though she was not with you, you STILL were thinking of her. It is a difficult day. Sending Hugs your way!

Just sending you a cyber-hug and support - I am so sorry you are apart on her 1st birthday.

I had friends that printed out a large picture of their child & even put a party hat on the picture and attached it to the high chair in front of the cake. It was really sweet & will be precious in the future......

We had a family birthday party for Zach and videotaped it so that he could see us celebrating even though he wasn't home yet. Make sure to get the presents in the pictures/video. Then, I had him open the presents the day after we got home (with family).

I am sending you hugs! Even with the party, it is still hard not having your little one home. I will say a prayer that she is home soon!!

I did this last month. It was a tough day but I took my other daughter out to the carousel and the park...did all her favorite things...just enjoyed the child I DID have home. Then we called her foster family bought a cake, sang and videotaped the whole thing. I even have her sister saying "ok mommy, since my sister is in Gual-a-mala can I have her cake now?" Should make for some interesting conversation through the years. Hang in. It is a rough day.

I took a picture of myself holding her picture with a birthday cake. Later, my adoption coordinator sent me a picture of HER holding the picture of me holding picture.

I love it!
