Who has a chunky-waisted DD? Need pants help!

Mikayla carries her weight in her middle. She doesn't have the 'bloated or protruding" stomach that goes away with time. Hers is, well, fat. It's not like I am intentionally making my daughter overweight and actually, she is NOT overweight, she just has a chubby belly, REALLY chubby belly that I conceal well with dresses in the summer. She gets a high amount of calories because she is still on infant formula due to her extreme milk alllergies. She drinks Soy formula and no, she won't take regular Soy milk and no, she won't take rice milk. And her sensory issues along with her milk allergy give her a very limited diet of things that she WILL eat. I don't want to get into a debate about feeding kids bad things. She eats pretty healthy for the most part but it's the formula that is her problem and she drinks a lot of it because she hates to eat foods.

So that said...does anyone know of some wide-waisted pants (jeans) that would work for her? She is VERY short-legged, another huge problem and wears 18-24M in length but needs like 3T in waist! Childrens place is too slim, Gap is too slim, looked at Target and Wal Mart and while Gymboree pants fit her SO perfectly, they don't make "basic" jeans without flowers or whatever on them. Someone has to be in the same boat as me. I really need a pair of jeans for her that aren't going to dig into her poor belly. It has to hurt! I know it does me when I have a FAT DAY. ROFL.

So please, give me suggestions, and I don't want advice as to how help her slim down. This child gets more physical activity than most children, she does not stop moving and running from the moment she wakes up, those that have met her know that. She is NOT sedentary (sp). Just chunky due to situations out of her and my control.

Have you tried crazy8? I haven't bought anything there yet, one just opened near me so I was going to check it out this weekend but I was looking at their website and they seem to have several pairs of jeans without decoration. Since they are part of gymboree, maybe their sizing is similar? Just a thought.

Another alternative might be skirts with leggings or thick tights for cooler weather. You could probably get away with a skirt in a larger size without it being too long, at least some styles. I actually have the opposite problem with Tati, especially since she is out of diapers. I can't find any that stay up on her! I bought her several gymbo size 2 short sets for the summer since she turned 2 in June but they still won't stay up several months later! Well, maybe she can wear them next summer. So, maybe size 2 skirts might fit your little one then just put something warm on to cover the legs.

Good luck and don't worry, I think it just takes some kids longer to lose the baby fat.

Carolina is in the same boat. I can never find jeans that dont totally squeeze ger tummy. The best I can do is look for 3T's in "capri" length (they will be regular length on her) but even so, Gymboree are the only ones that will fit.

I've pretty much given up. She wears stretchy pants most of the time with longish tops that are cut full (fortunately they are in style so they are easy to find). Also dresses with leggings work well in the cooler weather (and it's cool here more than it is warm).

Please don't worry about a protruding belly. It's perfectly normal well into the preschool years

My daughter isn't overweight either but has always had a belly and thicker legs and needs a bigger waist than length, so we wear nothing but leggings. The few times she's worn jeans (once for an all-cousin's picture) they came off as quickly as possible because they were just too snug. If you have to have jeans for something, I think cropped/capri is the way to go, if not, Target has really inexpensive leggings that hold up well.

I feel your pain !!!! Jess is a little "chunka lunka" herself- she's not chubby or anything but all the brands you've mentioned don't fit her either! In fact I've even had trouble with Gymboree lately becuase their 2t is too slim in the waist- and all their jeans have decorations on the cuffs so you can't buy bigger and roll 'em up. She also has some "junk in the trunk" so that presents problems too! I did buy capris in 4t over the summer but that will be hard in the winter! Let me know what you find!!!!!

I had the same problem with my DD#2. The good news is it gets better with time. But I would go to stores like Babies R Us and JCPenny and buy size 3T capri pants. Fit her perfect and nobody knew the difference. We did that the whole winter and by the next winter the formula was gone and we slimmed right down and could wear the 3T capris for capris. Hope this helps!!!

Blessings

CAPRI PANTS!!!! That is a PERFCT idea. Thank you everyone!!!! I did buy her some leggings. I have several pairs that are super cute for winter/fall. I will have to get in gear and go look for some capri's. That just may be the solution!! WOO HOO!

I was going to suggest the same thing - capris. Madelyn is in a 2t for her belly, but honestly could probably be in a 12-18 mos for height. So, the capris work perfectly. And she wears a lot of legging type pants from Gymboree during the cooler months. Luckily, we're in southeast Louisiana, so it doesn't get that cold down here. Good luck!

Sam's Club has a line - I think it's called "little me"? It is the weirdest-sized line of kids' clothes. The pants / skirts are wide-waisted but the shirts are skinny. I can only wear the tops on my skinny minnie, but the pants were perfect for my wee one when she was chunkier and still in diapers. We used capris as well.

I don't have any advice EXCEPT, honey, honey, honey - don't feel like you have to explain what you're giving YOUR daughter! I would hope people would mind their own business.

We have purchased from Crazy 8 and the sizing does seem to be similar to Gymboree. They do have "basic" jeans without the embellishments, but I haven't bought any of the jeans so I can't speak specifically to their sizing.

Have you tried Carter's? I always found their pants to be wider-waisted than other brands.

Short and fat, then tall and skinny my nanny would say. It is pretty true. They get chunky then overnight it seems the belly goes away and they are taller. It is pretty cool actually.

Can't help with the clothes though - we have the opposite problem - if pants fit in the leg, we get the baggy pants showing the diaper look. 10% for weight, 40% for height.

I have a little 5 year old chunker here too! We do the capri thing (works like a dream!), but Sears also carries jeans that are wider and shorter. They also have their KidVantage program, which totally rocks in my book!
