????traditional Clothing????

This may seem a little silly of a question but how many of you put your children in their traditional clothing to go out somewhere? I do from time to time and I always get questions about her clothing and many say they have never seen that kind of clothings so as I dressed her in it this morning the question popped into my mind!

Just out of curiosity, why do you choose to dress her in Traditional (I'm guesing you mean Mayan clothing?) clothing?

Do you mean you already have a child home and you dress that child in Guatemalan clothing and take them out here in America? I ask because I saw on your timeline that you're going to Guatemala and I wondered??? Personally, we bought our daughter traditional Mayan clothing and had her photos taken in it when we brought her home but, really, I bought it as a keepsake for her. It's in her lifebox. She can take it out and look at it whenever she likes but, she's only 2 years old and so far, she's more interested in her princess dress! I would not take her out in public in it here because #1) I think it would be uncomfortable to wear #2) I think she would feel uncomfortable in it because it would draw even more attention to her and #3) because I think she would scream "NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" at the top of her lungs if I tried and she would throw a tantrum and refuse to wear it! Some days I can't even get her to wear socks! hahaha

We're part of a local adoption group, and sometimes I put them in traditional (Guatemalan) clothing for those functions. Also, we dress them up for our local International Festival each year.

I put put son in traditional Mayan clothing on Easter and will do so on Monday, Independence Day, even though we are recovering from Ike in Houston.

I do if we are going to an adoption related function or sometimes when we go out to a local Guatemalan restaurant. I am thinking of putting her in one of her outfits (made in Guatemala but not necessarily a typical outfit) on Monday for Independence day.

THe only time I have done this was at Guatemala functions with our group. I have over 7 traditional type outfits and dresses for her that are beautiful, but kind of "fragile" and I wanted them more for keepsakes than anything else. Although this one dress we bought there and she DID wear this when she was a baby as a dress and for St. Patty's day as a tunic. It was smocked and BRIGHT green. But it doesn't look traditional to me. Got tons of compliments on it though!

Do you dress up in whatever is traditional clothes for you when you dress her up? I guess if it is just to run errands or go out to eat, it seems, well, a little odd.

Not meant to offend but be honest.

Thanks for the answers. To answer a few of the questions:
Yes my daughter is already home and has been for two years now.

I think her Mayan outfits are beautiful and since she is Mayan I want her to be proud of her culture and this is why I like to let her wear them sometimes!

Sometimes I put her in it to go to church, functions with adoptive families, or just to go out for the day!!

We do have some that are strictly for keepsakes and others I bought for her to wear!

She's three and LOVES to wear them and smiles and says I beautiful when I put them on her!! Another reason I put them on her!

No I don't wear the traditional clothing when I put them on her but my other daughter also LOVES to look like her sister and she does wear it. My son will also get excited and put on his shirt I bought him! He's 11 and thinks Arianna's clothing are AWESOME!! The reason I don't wear them is a.) totally DON'T do dresses or skirts!!! b.) never found any to fit!!

Oh and I don't always put her in the traditional clothes really just every now and then!!

I know I may seem crazy right about now, but I LOVE the beautiful colors in her clothing and I like for her to wear them. People don't make a fuss and she has gotten many compliments from people, but no really okward moments!
