Houston Airport

Is 1hour and 45 minutes enough between flights at the Houston Texas airport. Our agency is telling us we need at least 2 to 2 1/2 hours. But that jumps us up to a four hour wait. YUUUCK

Yes!!! You need at least 2 1/2 hours. We missed our connecting flight on a visit trip that we had 1 1/2 hours between connecting flights. Several international planes landed at once so the lines were incredibly busy. It will take even more time to go through customs on a pick up trip. We are looking at 4 hour wait so we can relax and eat before our flight. It was very stressful missing our connecting flight as we had to wait 18 hours for the next connecting flight available.

It took us about 20 minutes to get through immigration with J - we had a 2 hour layover in Houston.

It really depends on how many flights arrive with yours and how many Visas need to be processed when yours is processed.

We came throguh Houston on May 1. 1 1/2 hours was more than enough time then. We also had an early morning flight out of Guatemala (6:00am), getting us to Houston before a lot of others. I think it depends on what time of day you're flying. Good luck!

Hello! I know I PM'd you but...it really depends on whether or not you are coming on on an IR3 or IR4 visa. IR4 takes much longer (if you did not comlete a visit trip during the process). I have heard that IR3 was a much smoother ride!! I would still say to ask your agency.
Keep us posted!!

Make sure you have at least 2 1/2 hours in Houston. We missed a connecting flight on a sunny day (no bad weather) because of long lines and long delays with the ground crew, not to mention immigration. We had taken the same flight before with no problems, so there is no way to predict when it will happen. For Houston I would make sure you have 2 1/2 hours, as flights recently have been very booked and it is very difficult to rebook if you miss a connection.

Denise,
Don't take the chance.....our trip home was HORRIBLE, and we needed extra time. If your flight leaving GC is delayed you will be in a mess....... I would say to have the 4 hour layover if your only other choice is an hour and a half...... It's better to be there with an hour to kill than to miss your flight! You could always try to hop on the earlier flight if you get through in time..... SO HAPPY FOR YOU!

We just came through Houston, on an IR4, and it took no time at all. Our flight landed around 6 pm on a Thursday. Our connecting flight didn't leave until 9 pm, and after gettting through customs, immigration, and rechecking our bags, we had 2 1/2 hours to kill.

I guess it all depends on the time of day and how many other flights are arriving at that time.

I would say at least 2 hours- while everything that eveyone has mention is important, what you do not know until you get in the room is how many other flyers from other flights are are being reviewed and are already ahead of you. I was in a room with 20 other folks when we came through in 2007 - we had 3 hours and thank goodness we were the second family out.

The time we had to just sit and relax, eat a meal, let Aidan play was worth the time sitting in an airport.

I would not chance it.

Also, I was on the first flight out of GC in the morning

Go for the extra time

With our first adoption we literaly ran from place to place without food and they held the flight for us. Give yourself the time so you dont have to stress. Best to you.

Do the four hours. The downside risk if you don't make it is really bad. They will start re-routing you all over the country or you may just get stuck waiting for much longer until they have open seats for you. Also, the international flights are over in one wing of the airport and most likely your departure is way the heck over in another part of the airport. Also planes from Guatemala are often late. The risk of rebooking isnt' worth it.

YES Denise, you NEED at least 2-2 1/2 hours! When we came through Houston last time we had to wait almost 40 minutes to get through Immigration and it was just the 2 of us. So, take the longer layover. You probably won't be sorry. Gives you a chance to stretch your legs, let Avea play, then get on the final plane home. Why rush things?

Your agency was right~

Mine was 4 hour between flights... And I had just enough time to get through immigration, sit in their room for 1 hour... get my luggage, check it back in, change baby, grap some snack food for the 2 flight, get to the gate...

It seems like 4 hours is a long time... But it really isn't... THAT AIRPORT IS HUGH~
