Totally OT: Tips on curling DD's hair

Should I use a curling iron or rollers?
If rollers what type...sponge??
She has fine to med. straight hair.
I would LOVE to curl it for church sometimes.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Something that works awesome is making tiny buns, like 6 all over the head, and securing with just a large rubber band. Do this the day before you want the hair curled. Take out and if desired spray lightly with hairspray. It makes the most awesome hair do on our little one. Anna

I did my little ones hair for a church baby pageant a few times and I used setting lotion and sponge rollers to do her hair. I couldn't believe how awesome her hair looked the next day when I fixed it!! i also couldn't believe she sat still and let me do it!!

i'd advise against the curling iron. i'm an adult and i pay close attention to what i'm doing and i still burn myself sometimes with the curling or flat iron.

the bun idea is great! or soft foam curlers should do the trick as well.

sometimes i wish i had a girl (in addition to my sweet boy, of course)...

I love the soft twist sponge rollers...they are nicer than the old pink ones with the hard plastic clips. You just wrap the hair and then twist the cloth ends and it stays all night. I usually will put Bella's hair in a high pony tail on top of her head and then roll it all. That way none of it is in her way during the night. It's her 'cheerleader hair' as we call it and it is very cute!

We use the soft sponge rollers and a little spray when we take them out. The only thing I have to remember is to get them in with plenty of time to dry if I'm not putting them in overnight. If I don't give it about 8 hours the hair isn't dry and a blow dryer is completely out of the question...she won't let me near her with it!

But if there's plenty of time the curlers work great. She has loads of curls when they come out.

Baby socks (rag rolls) work great for rolling up the hair and when they sleep there is no discomfort. Just rap the hair around the sock and tie it, put alot of hair for soft curls and a little hair for tight curls. I don't have girls but have done this in the past with girls I use to babysit.

Well...in my past life I was a cheer coach. Have you ever seen the cheerleader curls? They have to withstand tumbling, stunting, etc. all day. I've rolled and rolled many a cheerleader hair over the years. So...here is the trick. Sponge rollers on completely dry hair with a little hairspray on each strand of hair right before you roll it. Try to keep the strands equal and make sure the you don't roll too much on each strand (if the roller is bulging - it is too much hair). If her hair is fine, you won't have to keep it rolled for very long. It will look adorable.

When I was a kid, my mom always rolled my hair with sponge rollers and they made my straight hair very curly.

LOL- I have to admit reading this thread made me feel even more intimidated about the thought of having a girl. I am a brush and go person myself - I dont even blow dry my own hair anymore - and I like that quality in my child too. The thought of a ponytail scares me.
