Dee,
Was there something particular that made the doctor want to test for Fragile X? My best friend has 2 boys with Fragile X so I know a lot about it. There is a wide spectrum of symptoms and abilities. Here 2 sons are very different as far as IQ, social skills and abilities.

PM me if you want more information. I am just curious what your doctor saw that made him want to test for that specifically since it took my friend 7 or 8 years to get someone to suggest testing for fragile x after many years of developmental delays.

Hugs and good luck to you.

Susan

It will be okay. If it is autism, it is very treatable. My youngest was dx'd with a form of autism (PDD-NOS) at 15 mos and after 8 mos of intensive speech, ABA, OT, and early intervention she is functioning at or above age level in all areas (except social, she'll never be QUITE up to par in that area, but she loves us and her sisters in her own way). She has just started regular preschool and no one there has noticed anything unusual about her...she just fits right in. Now, as she gets older things may change as kids are expected to be more social as they get older, but she's holding her own.

Autism can be treated. As can other developmental issues. And progress can and will be made.

BTW, my middle daughter has mild CP. Both girls require a lot of therapy but are making beautiful progress.

YOU CAN DO THIS.

Kelly

Dee ... wow, I haven't been here in ages and you're really growing that family!!! Jesse is ADORABLE! Congrats on him and your pregnancy! WOW!

I agree, I'd work with him yourself as aggressively as you can and have him eval'd later. He's been through a HUGE change, not to mention if he wasn't getting a lot of developmental experiences before he came home.

You'll do fine, he'll do fine! Even if there is something major, you will make it! You are a great mom, a great inspiration and a great supporter. Now you have Jesse who will need all of those things!

Congrats again!!!

I am no expert but, I feel for you having all of this said to you just 2 weeks after getting home! I think it was several months before our daughters personalities started to reemerge. I think they each had some down time as they were exhausted(they slept A LOT) and grieved all that they had lost--and tried to understand WHAT was going on in their life now--when I try to put myself in their little heads with a three-year old view I am dumfounded and can't even imagine how topsy-turvy and whirling they must feel! how can they sort it all out?

I hope things sort out soon! Just keep loving on that little guy and realize as his mother you things will unfold and you will know your place in his world and his in yours.
